Riverstone International School
June 23, 2016
Hi All,

It's been quiet here on campus these past few weeks as we continue into the summer break. The administrative team has been wrapping up last year and beginning to plan for what will be a very exciting start of the 2016-17 school year.

I have been thinking about what it means to experience a truly international school. First, because of our small community, it means that every student will interact with someone who can challenge their ideas in a safe way. The focus is always on growth, not on retreat, and the ability to look at a situation differently is a great one.

At Riverstone, our small yet globally-connected school offers a tangible understanding of the real world in a personal and challenging way. Our students discover that mutually beneficial and positive relationships with the people around you, people who are not exactly like you or may not be your first choice as a best friend, are what helps them develop the skills to flourish within and outside of our community. What these interactions provide is a chance for students to develop empathy, which I would argue is one of the 21st Century's most important skills.

As Fitzgerald wrote in The Great Gatsby, "...I like large parties. They're so intimate. At small parties, there isn't any privacy." Real international education, and the real world, are messy: at times there is no privacy, you have to learn how to carry yourself thoughtfully and, most importantly, with empathy. I see this every day at our small school, in our growing group of alumni, and in our students' ability to adapt to life outside of and after Riverstone.

In the next newsletter, I will share our ISA scores, which benchmark our students on an international level.

Also - we have officially broken ground on the new building and shared the news with the media. Hopefully you will see our school generating excitement in the larger community!

Call for anything,
null

WE APPRECIATE YOUR REFERRALS
Rachel A note from Rachel Pusch, Director of Enrollment Management:

Happy Summer! I hope you and your family are well and enjoying some time away from school.

We still have openings in many grades available for enrollment this fall and would appreciate your help in recommending Riverstone to friends and family.

We are open from 9AM - 1PM, giving tours, and working with families and students on their applications. We are also offering an incentive for families who are interested in enrolling for the fall.

I am pleased to share that we will waive the usual $75 application fee for families who start their applications* prior to August 15, 2016 for the 2016-2017 academic year. Please encourage friends to inquire online now; we will email them the appropriate code to use to waive the application fee.

We offer financial aid that does not need to be repaid and scholarships as well. We encourage prospective families to ask about financial aid. There are many factors that are considered; we do our best to work with families who are mission-appropriate.

Referrals from current families are always valued and much appreciated. Thank you for your help!

*Day students only; not applicable for residential students

SUMMER CAMPS - SIGN UP TODAY!
We still have availability to sign up for our summer camps by July 8!

Camps are fun, engaging, and interesting for children of all ages as well as open to the public - so bring a friend! We design our camps and activities to provide children and teens with opportunities to explore personal interests or try something for the first time. Our camps focus on art, cooking, Spanish language learning, basketball, and writing.

We also partner with Huntington Learning Center to offer an SAT Prep Class that is designed specifically for our students. This unique course has been taken by many Riverstone students and has proven to be beneficial; ultimately this group class is less expensive for our families than if you were to pay for individual test preparation courses. Added bonus: our students enjoy the camaraderie.
