Riverstone International School
April 7, 2016
|

Hi All, I'm looking forward to seeing our community back together tomorrow as both the Senior Outdoor Trip (I have now signed my last Riverstone parent trip waiver), and the Grade 11 College Trip are arriving home today. This won't last long however; in a few short weeks the Seniors will be off campus beginning their month of IB Diploma Programme testing. I will share more about the DP exam process next week, and I look forward to watching as our Grade 11 students begin to assume their school leadership roles!
Over the next two months there will be other Riverstone right-of-passage events as well. The Grade 5 students have begun the Exhibition, marking their Elementary School swan song. The Grade 10 students will be showing off the work that they have done for their Personal Projects, their final milestone before graduating into the demands of the Diploma Programme. While students completing both of these projects work closely with mentors, their topics are student-centered, and the students are wholly responsible for the outcome. The skills that they acquire will last a lifetime.
So, welcome back and let's all enjoy the homestretch. Please join us at our lovely Meet the Seniors Program next Tuesday, April 12.
Call for anything,
Bob Carignan Head of School

|
All parents are encouraged to join us to Meet the Seniors next Tuesday, Apr 12 from 8:45 AM - 10:15 AM in the Kennedy Gymnasium!
This is your chance to hear directly from the seniors. What did they feel they gained by attending Riverstone? Where are they going to college (or still considering)? What was their most memorable experience at our school? Why is Riverstone unlike other schools? These students and their personal stories will re-affirm for you why you have chosen Riverstone!
This event is kindly hosted by the Parents' Association.

HOST FAMILY OPPORTUNITIES
|
Welcome back from Spring Break! With the end of the year so close, now is the time to consider hosting a student for the next academic year. The students listed below have all chosen Riverstone as their top choice of US schools to attend. Of course, the students and their families are anxiously awaiting news that they have been accepted to the school of their choice. Please consider helping make one of these students' dream come true. We cannot accept any of these students until we have host families; now is the time!
Carlota: A 16 year-old girl from Spain. She is interested in basketball, soccer, and other sports. She likes music, movies, and shopping. Carlota has two sisters and a cat. She says she is very sociable. She wants to come to Riverstone to meet new people, try new experiences, and learn more about America. Fin: A 17 year-old boy from Germany. Fin visited the US one time and has wanted to come back ever since. When he heard about Riverstone, he decided this was the place for him. Fin says his passion is tennis, but he likes skiing and spending time with friends, too. Fin is hoping that Riverstone will give him the chance to try all kinds of new things and to share his culture while learning about American culture. Josephin: A 16 year-old girl from Germany. Josephin likes swimming, cooking, working with younger students, music, and drawing. She has a younger sister and enjoys spending time with her. Josephin likes to ski and has recently learned how to snowboard. In addition to enjoying social activities with friends and family, Josphin likes animals. She has a dog and two horses and wouldn't mind being in a house with pets. She is hoping to come to America to learn more about the culture, to meet new people and to share her culture with her host family and friends. Hugo: A 16 year-old boy from France. Hugo is very excited about the idea of coming to the US. Hugo is the oldest in his family of four boys. All of his family enjoys art; his father enjoys sculpting, his mother dances and all of the boys play music together. Hugo plays double bass and bass guitar. In addition to music, Hugo enjoys reading, movies, and sports. Hugo hopes to study politics or business and he hopes improving his English will help him in his future. In his own words, "I chose to go to the USA because I want to improve my English, to discover a new culture and a new land, to meet many people, to discover beautiful landscapes and to see the life in one of the best countries of the world." |
Molly M (Gr 3) competed in the Intermountain Division Nordic Ski Festival held in Sun Valley earlier this winter. She won 1st Place in the Classic Nordic event for ages 10 and under as well as 4th Place in the Skate Ski event for ages 10 and under. Congratulations, Molly!
The Intermountain Division is comprised of member clubs in Idaho, Montana, Utah and Western Wyoming. Molly is pictured to the right on the podium for her 1st Place award.
Congratulations to Clare W (Gr 4)! She represented Riverstone at the annual Boise School District Spelling Bee. She was among the 50+ students vying for the title of 2016 Spelling Champion.
Clare made it successfully through the first round and into the second round before misspelling a word.
