Dear Riverstone Community,
Our endowment campaign, Navigating Forward, is making great strides!
Last month, we shared news of the generous $250,000 gift from the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation that will be used to establish the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Scholarship Fund. The scholarship will expand school choice for Idaho's youth by enabling more students with financial need to attend Riverstone International School.
Since that time, we are grateful that additional foundations and individuals have stepped forward with many generous gifts.
- We have received cash gifts of an additional $250,000
- We have received over $725,000 in pledges
In other words...total pledges and cash of over $1,225,000. We are on our way towards our $5 million goal!
Another milestone in this campaign is nearing in just a few weeks in mid-May. The school will be presenting a formal proposal to the Malone Family Foundation in order to officially receive their $2 million grant. As you may recall, when we were awarded the Malone Family Foundation grant three years ago, we did not qualify to receive full control of the monies as we did not have an endowment in existence.
Together, we can strengthen our May proposal to the Malone Family Foundation with contributions and pledges made in the next two weeks.
If you are ready to pledge or contribute to our endowment fund, please contact either of us before May 8 to discuss the opportunity further.
However, please understand that this is a two-year campaign with a $5 million goal. We will have more opportunities in future months to share how you can be part of this important endeavor to ensure that Riverstone is here for future generations of learners.
Join us tomorrow (Friday, April 24) for coffee at 8:30 AM in the atrium.
We would love to continue the conversation about why an endowment fund improves our school and our students' educational experience.
Thank you again for your enthusiasm and generosity.
Warm regards,
Kurt and Treacy Liebich

Each month in our newsletter, we will include questions that we've been asked. Please feel free to forward your questions to Bob Carignan. What is an endowment? How does it differ from annual giving? This definition of an endowment from "Power Shift" sums it up nicely: "An endowment is a fund that holds its principal in perpetuity and only pays out a small portion, about 4 to 5 percent per year that goes to campus operations and programs. Endowment investments have dual goals: to grow the principal and to generate income." At Riverstone, our endowment will provide an annual stream of revenue in perpetuity that will allow us to expand into areas identified by our strategic plan (STEM, differentiation, capital expenditures, etc.). This revenue may also be used for unexpected situations and exciting opportunities. Foundations who may be interested in contributing to Riverstone will view our endowment as a sign of financial sustainability and strength, as they strive to ensure that their gifts will be impactful long into the future. In comparison, your contributions to our Annual Fund and Auction each year are allocated and spent in the immediate future for needs that we've identified. Great schools need both an endowment and annual giving because in combination, they ensure that we can seize both short and long-term opportunities, making our students' experience better every day. |
