Spring Greetings from Riverstone!
I'd like to invite you to our March open houses next week and hope that you will be able to join us to learn more about our school. If you are considering our Elementary School (preschool - grade 5), please join us on Tuesday, March 10 at 9:30 AM.
If you are considering our Middle or High Schools (grades 6-12), please join us on Thursday, March 12 at 9:30 AM.
Both events will start promptly at 9:30 AM with a presentation, followed by tours of our classrooms so you can see our students and teachers in action. Please meet in our Elementary School at 5521 Warm Springs Avenue.
Although it may seem early to be thinking about the upcoming school year, these next two months are important for families who would like their children to attend Riverstone in the fall. We will be making decisions about the number of classes we offer for each grade and how many students we can admit. Please be sure to submit applications for your children as soon as possible. If you have any questions about the application process, please call or email me.
I would like to share some of the highlights of the past month:
- Grades 8 & 10 returned from winter camping at Banner Ridge near Idaho City. In addition to snow science activities, Grade 8 students slept in yurts while our Grade 10 students dug and slept in snow caves for two nights
- Forty-two students qualified for the Idaho state competition of National History Day. These students will compete for slots at the National competition in Washington, DC this June
- College acceptances are starting to come in for our seniors. Recent acceptances include Yale University, Claremont McKenna College, UCLA, UCSD, Colorado School of Mines, Colorado College, Willamette University, University of Puget Sound, University of Idaho, University of Arizona, University of Texas at Austin Honors College, and Reed College among others
- Grade 2 students presented Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing to the Riverstone community and to the residents of the Idaho State Veterans Home
- Grade 5 studied snow science for five days at McCall Outdoor Science School
- We celebrated our school community at our annual auction
- Our High School Boys and Girls Basketball teams advanced to their respective district tournaments
Finally, please keep in mind that there is road work on Warm Springs Avenue. The East Parkcenter Bridge between Bown Crossing and East Warm Springs Avenue is closed. Allow a little extra time for driving if you are unfamiliar with this area and plan to detour on Boise Avenue or plan to take Warm Springs Avenue from the downtown area and around the Mesa.
We look forward to seeing you next week!
