The Malone Family Foundation was founded in 1997 by Dr. John C. Malone, well known communications and media executive and investor, and his family, with one principal objective: to improve access to quality education-particularly at the secondary school level-for extraordinary students who lack the financial resources to best develop their talents.
While in seventh grade, John Malone was the recipient of a work scholarship to Hopkins Grammar School in New Haven, CT. This opportunity proved to be pivotal in his life, providing him with "a peer group with whom I could have fascinating and pivotal discussion, an environment where I was not only allowed to be smart but was challenged to see many sides of each issue..."
