Riverstone International School Newsletter
January 8, 2015
|
Hi All,
There comes a time in every life to begin saving and thinking about the future, so too does this happen in the life of schools. We are transitioning from adolescence to adulthood and following the natural progression of schools who aspire not only to be great now but long into the future.
It is with great excitement that I announce that Riverstone International School will be launching an Endowment Campaign, Navigating Forward. The initial fundraising campaign will last two years. We are very fortunate to have Kurt and Treacy Liebich as our Endowment Campaign Co-Chairs.
An endowment will allow Riverstone to establish a firm financial foundation. The interest that is generated from the endowment funds will allow us to have a steady source of income each year. The endowment funds can be used as collateral for future capital projects as we look to improve the school facilities. Finally, having an endowment is the only condition that we have not met in order to secure the $2 million Malone Family Foundation Grant. By establishing and funding the Riverstone Endowment, the school can secure the Malone Family Foundation grant.
Over the last six months, the Board of Trustees' Development Committee, led by Nicole Toeldte, has worked to create the required structure and policies for the fund; this work is now complete. We also would like to thank Darin DeAngeli of Ahrens DeAngeli Law Firm for his assistance and expertise in this critical work.
For the remainder of this academic year, we will be working to educate our community. We will not ask for money until everyone has had the opportunity to be educated on what our endowment will do and why it is so critical in our growth as a school.
Every family will be invited to an evening mixer over the next several months. Please look for your invitation in the next few weeks. Once again, we will not be asking for money at these events, just socializing together and talking about why this campaign is so important.
Look for Kurt and Treacy's initial letter next Tuesday. Please join us from 8:30-9:00 AM next Friday, January 16, in the Elementary School Atrium for the kick-off. Coffee and juices will be provided.
This is a bold and important moment for our current students and for those who will attend Riverstone for the next 100 years and beyond. Together we have the opportunity to leave our mark on the future and create a legacy that will ensure students in the Treasure Valley will always have the opportunity to receive the best independent private education available.
I am proud and excited that we will be leaving our mark together.

A note from our School Counseling team:
Welcome back! Next week in wellness class, the Middle School students will be learning about tips and advice on how to accomplish their goals. In the week before winter break, students reflected on the fall semester and created two goals that they will be working towards this semester. We will discuss keeping track of progress and what accomplishing these goals will look like on a daily and weekly basis.
Join us on Friday, Jan 16 at 2:30 PM for a parent information session with Shirley O'Neil, School Counselor. The topic will be "Risk Taking: Setting Realistic Boundaries, Goals and Expectations for Middle Schoolers." Meet in the library.

HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL
|
The following is an update from Coach Erich Chapman: The High School boys basketball team has been busy over the holiday break. Several of our Riverstone basketball alumni who were home for the holidays took the time to stop by to encourage the team and even jumped in to practice with us and impart some valuable lessons. It was great to see the old faces return. It was most appreciated by our entire team and even generated discussion of a possible alumni game in the near future! We entered our first ever holiday tournament on December 26 and 27. The Varsity boys captured our first road victory in almost 4 years by knocking off the host Greenleaf varsity 44-27 in the opening round before falling to a tough Compass team in the championship game. Overall, our Varsity and JV teams have a combined 4-7 record through the non-conference schedule so far. We are ready to launch into conference play starting this Friday back at Greenleaf. Our next home contest will be on Tuesday January 13 vs Horseshoe Bend. We hope you can come out and support the team. |
MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL AMBASSADORS
|
As we enter our busiest recruitment season of the year, we are working to improve our Student Ambassador program to ensure that visiting students have the best possible experience while visiting the school. Each visitor is partnered with two students in their current grade, so that the visiting student can see first-hand what it is like to attend Riverstone.
We are seeking students in Gr 6-10 who would like to serve as a Student Ambassadors for the remainder of the 2014-15 school year.
Ambassadors will need to attend a training session on Tuesday, Jan 13 from 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM in the Elementary School.
Thank you to the students who attended our first training session yesterday (pictured above). Great conversation and ideas!
Please contact Rachel Pusch, Director of Enrollment Management and Administration, with questions.

How do you know if Riverstone is closed due to winter weather? Our policy is as follows:
- Riverstone will be closed if the Boise School District closes district-wide.
- In cases where only certain schools in the Boise School District are closed, Riverstone's administration will decide whether to cancel school on a case-by-case basis.
If school is cancelled, an all-school email and text will be sent. The information will also be posted on the school Facebook page and school calendar.
Please remember that if you believe it is too dangerous for your children to travel to school, you have the option to delay arrival time or keep your children home. Please notify the school as you would with any late arrival or absence.
If school is cancelled, there are no after school activities or athletics practices/games on that day.
|
Just a reminder to be aware of the safety of our students when on the school grounds.
We appreciate your cooperation and ask that everyone:
- Check the Greenbelt as you enter/exit
- Drive slowly
- Refrain from cell phone use
- Make sure your student uses the crosswalks where available
- Reserve handicapped parking spots for those with a permit
In the Elementary School, please park fully before unloading students.
Thank you! |
