Riverstone International School Newsletter
February 27, 2014
|
Dear Riverstone Parents,
I would like to thank those of you who have already submitted your re-enrollment agreements and deposits. We appreciate your support of the education we offer at Riverstone International School based upon our Five Pillars.
We have implemented a new online re-enrollment feature this year that generated email invitations to families to complete their re-enrollment online.
Many parents have appreciated the ease in using this new module but we realize that some parents may not have seen the email invitation from riverstoneschool@schooladmin.com
Parents need to use the link in the email from schooladmin.com to access their child's re-enrollment agreeement. Instructions for setting up an account are also included.
The re-enrollment email was sent from the following email:
riverstoneschool@schooladmin.com
The subject for the email was:
2014-2015 Enrollment Contract
If you have not received this email, please check your spam filters first. Following that, please contact me at rpusch@riverstoneschool.org or (208) 424-5000 #3 so we can re-send it to you.
We understand that sending your child to Riverstone International School is an investment and requires sacrifice on the part of our families. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we are grateful for the trust and confidence you place in Riverstone to educate your child.
You may download the initial letter from Bob Carignan, Head of School, discussing re-enrollment for the 2014-2015 school year here.
If you are unable to meet the 3:30 PM MST February 28, 2014 deadline for any reason, please notify Rachel Pusch at 424-5000 or rpusch@riverstoneschool.org as soon as possible.
Warm regards,
Rachel Pusch

The time from winter break to spring break is typically a difficult time for students. I have observed this phenomena both on a professional level as well as a personal level. The weather is not great, classes are hard, spring seems a long way off, and many times students are waiting to hear from colleges or summer programs.
Transitions tend to be hard physically as well as emotionally since we are neither here nor there. Drawing boundaries, setting up short term goals, and talking about future goals and objectives are all things that parents can do to help their student. I will often go through a one week schedule with a student picking something every day that they are looking forward to. It helps them to have something to focus on that is positive.
If your student is feeling overwhelmed by the homework and projects, it is a great idea to help them break things down into manageable chunks so that they can see short term accomplishments. Often having a family fun project can be helpful--games, puzzles, planning a trip, reading a book together, watching a tv series together can all be helpful.
Once spring break hits, most students can see that the end is near and things generally feel calmer and better.
Please email me if you have any questions or I can be of assistance.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL INTERNATIONAL FOOD FAIR
|
Students that were elected into the International Understanding Pillar in the Elementary S chool have been working diligently with Grade 5 teacher and mentor, Mrs. Dixon, on creating an event for their pillar. After many discussions and countless ideas, students decided to put together an International Food Fair, which will take place next Wednesday, March 5 from 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM in the atrium.
Students have created a poster with sign-up sheets and recipes for parents to snag if interested in helping make this event a successful one. If interested, a parent should plan on creating sample sizes of the recipe that can allow at least 20 people to taste a treat from somewhere around the world.
The pillar students are asking that if a recipe be taken from the poster, that parents sign their name up along with an email address so a reminder can be sent prior to next Wednesday.
The kids are so excited to see their ideas turned into an actual event, and they are hopeful that parents will help make this event a memorable one by participating. Please contact Kendra Dixon with questions.

HOST AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT IN 2014-2015
|
Many of our families have hosted several students over the years and continue their friendships long after the student has returned home or gone to college. Whether your kids are younger or older, everyone benefits from learning together about each other's cultures.
Please consider including the following student as part of your family next year!
Hugo S - a student from France in Grade 11 this fall
Hugo is a 16 year old male from a western coastal town in France, who has chosen Reiverstone for his year abroad. Hugo comes to us from ASSE, a company with whom we have worked for many years. Hugo enjoys tennis, skiing, running and sailing, and also video games and art history. Ultimately, Hugo hopes to have a career in design and is fond of drawing, painting and design. Hugo has 3 siblings and several step-siblings. He says that he would like to see the American's way of life and to perfect his English to become completely fluent, although his English proficiency is already quite high.
Please contact Rachel Pusch, Director of Admissions and Institutional Advancement, or Jane Kaserman, our ELL teacher and International Student Coordinator, for more information! |
The Susan G. Komen "Race for the Cure", slated for Saturday, May 10 this year, is a 5K run whose proceeds support breast cancer care in our community, including services such as mammograms for women who cannot afford them.
Riverstone parents and students who'd like to get out for a fun run and support the cause can register for Riverstone's team, "Otters for the Cure." Note that the "Non-Competitive" options are cheaper than the competitive ones.
If you are interested and have questions, please contact either Lisa Hecht or Caroline Sobota.
