Riverstone International School Newsletter
Riverstone International School Newsletter
January 23, 2014

Dear Riverstone Community,

The first time we attended a Riverstone auction, we were new parents and our children were not yet even school age. My husband and I were touched by the remarkable way the community rallied around the cause of their children's education. It was one of our first exposures to Riverstone and it wasn't long before we decided that we would be sending our kids to school here as well.

Little did I know at the time that I would be up to my ears in auction planning five years later, but here we are and the planning is in full swing with art creation, project teams forming, and donors offering their support on a daily basis. It's overwhelming and yet the Auction Committee is undaunted!

With the help of a willing and involved community, we execute a premier event, demonstrating with time, talent, and dollars our commitment to this cause. This year, we expand our scope to the Internet and the possibility of a broad audience that will expand our fundraising ability. Our first online auction will launch Thursday, February 13 with some fun items for your consideration and a rockin' launch event.

Also on the horizon are:
  • 50/50 tuition raffle
  • Koenig wine sales
  • a Rockin' Raffle with a musical preview for the community on February 20
You can expect invitations in the next couple of weeks. Start making your plans, get your babysitter, and expect to spend a memorable evening with us.

In the meantime, we need your help in any of the following ways:
  • Donate! We are looking for the perennial favorites and creative new ideas for our online, silent, and live auctions. We love the baskets, experiences, and unique things you bring to the table! Download a donation form here.
  • Join a project team! You can help out by being a part of a group who share your interests by signing up on the Community Opportunities sheet. Join an existing project or create your own. Grab a friend from your child's class or any other part of the school to help you out and increase the fun. Or ask one of us and we'll happily find the perfect spot for you.
  • Sponsor a table! With Diamond, Platinum, and Gold sponsorships, you receive ten tickets, premier seating, advertising, and some fun perks. Contact Rachel Pusch if you'd like to learn more.
  • Save the date and plan to attend! The night is going to ROCK!!
My co-chair, Mary Jane Murphy, and I know that March 1 will be here before we know it. We are so excited to show off all the hard work of a talented and creative committee and to join you in a celebratory night honoring one of the things we all hold most dear - the education of our children and the people and institution that enrich their lives.

Rock on!!

BASKETBALL
High School Girls

The Riverstone Girls have improved in many ways since the beginning of the season. With a close 2 point loss at Greenleaf, and leading Liberty (2nd in Conference) by 1 at half time, the girls have shown a vast improvement in basketball IQ and general attitude towards the game. The girls look to close out regular season play this month on a high note and head into Districts with some momentum! Go Otters!

Girls High School Basketball Senior Night at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, January 28 against Rimrock. Join us!

High School Boys

The Riverstone Boys High School Team is now in the midst of conference play and aiming to prepare for the District III tournament in February. The Varsity team has made significant progress having improved its margin over our opponents in every game so far this season! The squad is led in scoring by senior Drew K and freshman Dedi S. Of note, senior co-captain Tristan R recently established a new school record for the most career varsity games played with 39 and he continues to add to that mark with each contest. Congratulations to Tristan for three years of dedicated hard work!

The Junior Varsity squad is currently 4-5 after a couple of close defeats but the boys are working hard to complete the season with a winning record. A number of our Grade 10 international students including Regan Z, Ben J, Theo G and Justus S are all making key contributions. The JV team is led in scoring by freshman Jack G.

Middle School Boys

The Middle School boys season is underway. We will have an update next week!

Please contact Demi Dlouhy, Athletic Director, with any questions.

HOST AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT IN 2014-2015
Please start thinking about hosting an international student next fall! Some students need to be hosted for half of the year and others for the full year.

Many of our families have hosted several students over the years and continue their friendships long after the student has returned home or gone to college. Whether your kids are younger or older, everyone benefits from learning together about each other's cultures.

Please contact Rachel Pusch, Director of Admissions and Institutional Advancement, or Jane Kaserman, our ELL teacher and International Student Coordinator, for more information!
