Tri-County Regional Collection Facility

E-Cycling & Paint Totals -
It's a brand new year and already flying along. The staff of the Tri-County Regional Collection Facility (TCRCF) has taken advantage of the cold, hard winter by catching up on some much needed maintenance and organizing that was put off because of the incredibly busy 2013 collection year. That 2013 year consisted of nearly 900,000 pounds of material passing through the facility, a 15% increase over 2012!

Other Materials -
The TCRCF also handles other materials, either as stand-alone programs or as a by-product of the electronic and paint recycling. The 2013 totals in pounds for these materials were:
  • Unwanted medications       586  pounds
  • Household batteries           267  pounds
  • Rechargeable batteries     572  pounds
  • Scrap metal                     81,720  pounds
  • Other metals                     5,140  pounds
  • Cardboard                       15,600  pounds

                                                  Totals are measured in pounds.

City of Monmouth Has New Recycling Provider
C

After 24 years of service to the Monmouth community and surrounding area, Maple City Recycling closed its doors in late November 2013. The closure created a service void for rural residents who want the ability to recycle.

The City of Monmouth, in partnership with its new curbside recycling provider, Eagle Enterprises, Inc., is now providing a commingled recycling service at its transfer site located at Landfill Road off South 11th Street.

The following items are accepted curbside and at the transfer site:

  • Newspaper - everything that comes in the newspaper, including inserts
  • Corrugated cardboard - includes chipboard boxes, ie. cereal, tissue boxes. NO JUICE OR WAX-LINED BOXES.
  • Magazines
  • Books - telephone, hardback and paperback
  • Office paper - no construction paper
  • 3rd Class or junk mail - includes envelopes with plastic windows
  • Aluminum cans
  • Steel tin cans - rinsed of food waste, labels may be left on
  • Light steel - such as coat hangers, bicycles, etc.
  • Plastics #1, #5, and #7 - acceptable plastics need to be rinsed and are designated by a number inside the recycling triangle
  • Plastic grocery bags (#2 and #4), bubble wrap
  • Glass - clear, green or brown unbroken glass jars, bottles and jugs that contained food or beverages; labels do not have to be removed. NO WINDOWS, AUTOMOTIVE GLASS OR DISHES.

Village of Matherville Awards New
Solid Waste Contract
C

The Village of Matherville has awarded its new solid waste services contract to Jackson Disposal, LLC operating out of Seaton, Illinois. The village solicited bids for its current level of service consisting of four 32-gallon containers and weekly curbside recycling. Alternative bids were also solicited for a 96-gallon toter service on both the household refuse and recycling services. After careful consideration of the alternatives, the Village Board elected to contract with Jackson Disposal to continue its current 32-gallon refuse and curbside recycling service at an average cost of $14.86 per household each month.

Your local waste hauler's truck should be displaying the TCR&WMC decal in its front windshield. This decal signifies that the waste company is complying with the county ordinance to supply waste data to the solid waste coordinator's office for the annual IEPA report and that your waste is being handled properly.
The Tri-County Resource & Waste Management Council (TCR&WMC) represents and meets the solid waste management needs of incorporated and unincorporated communities in McDonough, Mercer, and Warren counties.  The council's Solid Waste Coordinator provides a comprehensive approach to solid waste issues.  For more information about the TCR&WMC, call 309-331-4782.
