Visionary Leader Header

Here at Nebo, we are fascinated by the new generation of leaders aka the millennials. The largest generation ever, this group of people have grown up with very different reference points than previous generations.  The media (and the running commentary in organizations) often casts millennials as self-absorbed, tech-obsessed, frequent job changers. I've attended and presented at conferences and meetings about how to attract, hire, retain and develop the emerging leaders of this generation.  But just this week, we listened to an intriguing piece on Marketplace that posed the question:  is this generation really all that different?

Next week, one of our own millennial leaders, Rachel Wold, and I will be your guides in a conversation with Anne Donovan, who has led the largest study ever on the millennial generation for PwC. This time, we'll take the topic from the angle of how best to understand, manage, lead and develop millennial employees.  Anne's perspective on the subject is evidence-based, tapping into the extensive research that PwC has conducted,  but her perspective also draws from personal experience. This show is for anyone trying to understand how to connect with and manage millennials.

Nebo Inspiration Corner

Nebo friend and former client Jim Rettew is the founder of Barnraisings, a crowdfunding site similar to Kickstarter that focuses on local Minnesota non-profit causes. Inspired by the traditional community event of raising a new barn in farming areas, Jim created the website after his idea for it won of of three top prizes for the "MN Open Idea" category awarded by the Minnesota Community Foundation two years ago. Rather than just soliciting donations for specific projects, Barnraisings also helps connect non-profits and individuals in need to volunteers who want to donate their time to help out. Check out this article for more of the story of how Jim made his idea a reality and click here to check out the Barnraisings website.
