Visionary Leader Header

Change is in the air! Birds outside our windows are seeking nesting spots. Snow drops have bloomed in Rock Creek Park, despite the snow day last Monday. Many of our clients are announcing changes in roles, departures from their companies and new ventures. Here at Nebo, we're enjoying the advent of Spring and the lift in energy that comes with it.

Given the restlessness afoot, next Monday, March 24 seemed like a very good time to re-introduce you to the wisdom and knowledge of Jim Kouzes, who, along with Barry Posner, wrote the classic leadership book, The Leadership Challenge.  I interviewed Jim in February 2013 and his insights about leadership and vision have stayed with me.

If you didn't listen the first time, this might be a great way to focus your attention on what it means to be someone whose leadership motivates and inspires others.

Happy spring!

Best wishes,

Exemplary Leadership: A Conversation with Jim Kouzes, One of the Nation's Most Trusted Sources of Best Practices on Leadership

Since its original printing in 1987, The Leadership Challenge has been reprinted multiple times and more than a million copies sold worldwide. Jim Kouzes and his colleague, Barry Posner, based their work on extensive global research, exploring the fundamental questions of how and why leadership matters. The results of their research are "go to" resources for leaders across all sectors. Join Host Kate Ebner and Jim Kouzes on Monday for an exploration of the five practices of exemplary leaders -- and a look at how vision plays a role in becoming a leader who inspires commitment, loyalty and productivity in others. You will learn why experience alone does not equate to success. Leaders who heed Jim's message will learn proven practices for developing the skills, behaviors and perspectives needed for greatness as a leader.

A Commitment to Opportunity for Girls in Anacostia featuring Sister Mary Bourdon, RJM and the Washington School for Girls
by Rachel Wold

After a successful first year of her after-school program for girls in the Anacostia neighborhood of Southeast Washington, DC, Sister Mary Bourdon, RJM asked the parents, "What do you think? Should we start a school here?" They had just one question in return, "Will you be around for the long haul?" In this disadvantaged community, residents had seen non-profit groups come into the neighborhood only to pack up and leave after setbacks. Sister Mary replied, "Absolutely." 17 years later, she's still there.
