Lupita Nyong'o
In honor of International Women's Day this Saturday, we'd like to celebrate a woman we find inspiring: recent Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong'o. Lupita has garnered widespread acclaim for her portrayal of Patsey in the film 12 Years a Slave but we find her words and actions outside the big screen to be equally noteworthy. The acceptance speech Lupita gave for her Best Breakthrough Performance Award at Essence Magazine's Black Women in Hollywood luncheon highlighted her own struggle to accept her dark skin tone as beautiful and told the story of how she eventually learned the true meaning of beauty. We encourage you to click here to watch her full remarks. We look forward to more of Lupita's talent and courageous words in the years to come.
