Education: What Kids Really Need -- And Adults Need to Know
Our most recently played radio show was a gathering of kindred spirits. School Heads Andrew Kutt, Laura Kang and Tal Birdsey conversed with Kate about their remarkable schools and the communities that support them.
Andrew Kutt, founder and principal of the Oneness-Family School, started this Montessori-inspired school in 1988 and is finding that his vision of a school where children discover who they are and how to contribute to a global society is more relevant today than ever. Based in Chevy Chase, Maryland, OFS serves children from ages 2 through 8th grade and has gained local renown for its commitment to peace education, stewardship of the earth and teaching and nurturing the whole child. As Andrew put it, "We help children see that the world is one family and we create an environment where they are accepted and loved. When children learn in this kind of climate, they develop the self-confidence, happiness and compassion for others that leads to success later in life."

Nebo Inspiration Corner
What the Nebo team is finding educational, provocative and inspirational this week:
Brain Pickings is a carefully curated blog devoted to art, literature, science and many other disciplines. On any given day, you might find a post about Van Gogh's secret sketchbook or the story of how the WWII-era friendship of a scientist and philosopher shaped modern culture. Looking for a thought provoking read? Peruse their virtual bookshelf. Take a moment to check out the "About" section, where founder Maria Popova explains her mission to curate "interesting-ness" in terms of cultivating creativity:
"In order for us to truly create and contribute to culture, we have to be able to connect countless dots, to cross-pollinate ideas from a wealth of disciplines, to combine and recombine these ideas and build new ideas - like LEGOs. The more of these building blocks we have, and the more diverse their shapes and colors, the more interesting our creations will become."
