Last week, Washington was abuzz with the 50-year anniversary of the March on Washington.  Fifty years ago, this extraordinary event and its messages catalyzed a movement of people dedicated to changing our society.  Since then, many people speak of the civil rights movement as a powerful force for change that greatly influenced and helped shape our national story.  I notice that, for many, the civil rights movement defines what a movement really is.  I wonder, how would the civil rights movement look if it took place today?

Building a movement has become common parlance for how people believe important change happens.  During the past three years, I've been involved with at least nascent national and global movements. From these experiences, I know that, in 2013, leaders grasp that a grassroots movement comes to life not only through live events and television, radio and newspapers, but also at the digital level.  Our digital era offers almost instant audience for important ideas and causes.  But how does one actually launch a movement?

On the radio show next Monday, Robbin Phillips, co-author of both Brains on Fire and The Passion Conversation, will share her firsthand knowledge about modern movements and the use of digital technologies. Robbin helps people connect passion, storytelling and outreach to spark authentic word-of-mouth movements and build excitement around an idea. Her expertise extends far beyond marketing and may be the missing link for those of you whose work depends on getting others fired up about a worthy cause.

I hope you'll join me for this exciting conversation.

Sincerely,

How To Have the Passion Conversation with Robbin Phillips

Robbin PhillipsAs Courageous President and co-founder of the word-of-mouth marketing and identity firm Brains on Fire, Robbin Phillips believes that every marketing problem is a people problem in disguise. The new world of marketing is much more personal. It's not about technology platforms or social media doodads-it's about real relationships with real people. Instead of focusing on how you can "use" your customers to grow your business, she strives to "connect" and "celebrate" with fans and prefers to conceptualize marketing as human beings drawing other human beings closer. A graphic designer turned creative marketer who helps organizations create, revitalize, protect and grow their brands, Robbin will share insights from her new book, The Passion Conversation with Host Kate Ebner on September 9. After meeting her, you'll see new possibilities for realizing your vision - and you'll never think of marketing in the same way again.
