You know, Dorothy of The Wizard of Oz is just a wonderful example of an archetypal Seeker. As the familiar story goes, a tornado deposits her in the Land of Oz, where she begins her journey down the Yellow Brick Road. More than anything, she wants to find Home. After meeting up with new friends, adversaries and a series of scary and exciting adventures, she comes to realize, thanks to the Good Witch of the North, that Home is inside herself, and that she could have returned there at any time. (Of course, the Tin Man, Lion and Scarecrow also realize that they have always possessed what they sought, as well.)
While the monkeys still scare me, I love this movie because, in addition to being great entertainment, it always reminds me that moving along one's path is a journey of discovery -- and that our most important answers lie within us. And we can discover them at any time, always just when we are ready.
On next week's show, I am honored to speak with Marc Lesser, whose Search Inside Yourself program helps people discover the keys to happiness, resilience and well-being through the lessons of leadership. This program, pioneered at Google, has earned international acclaim. Marc has also written a book called Less: Accomplishing More By Doing Less
that puts his wisdom in our hands. Marc offers a radical, yet simple approach to transforming your lifestyle from endless to-do lists to a more meaningful approach that's more productive in every way.
I can't wait to speak with him next week and look forward to taking the Search Inside Yourself course at the Institute for Transformational Leadership this October
. Please join me on Monday for guidance about how to search inside yourself.

Mindful Leadership at Work:
The Vision of Marc Lesser,
Co-founder and CEO of the Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute
How can we train the business world to practice mindful leadership? Seven years ago, executive coach and Zen teacher Marc Lesser teamed up with a Google engineer and Stanford neuroscientist to take on this challenging proposition for Google. They developed a ground-breaking curriculum to help thousands of employees at Google be more resilient, adaptive and happier leaders. The team eventually brought this curriculum to offices worldwide and developed the Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute (SIYLI) to support their work and mission. SIYLI is committed to the radical idea that work can not only be fun, enjoyable and a place to get things done, but also a place that creates the conditions for world peace. Join Host Kate Ebner and SIYLI co-founder and CEO Marc Lesser, author of Know Yourself, Forget Yourself, to learn the Google method of creating better leaders and inspiring a more peaceful world.

Lessons in Creating and Living a Vision
from the Frenchtown retreat
Visionary Leader, Extraordinary Life welcomed four courageous women on a special episode co-hosted by Kate Ebner and Chris Wahl on June 10. In January of 2011, these women took time to consciously articulate and commit to a vision of their lives through a visioning retreat in Frenchtown, NJ. On the show, we learned what brought them to the retreat, what they discovered there, and how their lives changed as a result of the visions they created.
After a successful career overseeing the design and manufacturing of baby wear, Helene was ready for something new. Helene was already thinking about her next step through coaching, so at the retreat, she enjoyed sharing the company of like-minded women and hearing their stories. "I used to think of myself as a victim but now I'm a survivor. Today, I'm living my vision every moment. My life is full of big, bold actions, including leaving corporate America to start brandhelene."
Well established as a leader and innovator in the children's television and media world, Donna was passionate about her work developing entertainment and educational experiences for children across multiple media platforms. But she was looking for more balance between work and life and felt somewhat unsatisfied, despite founding her own company, Lemonade Creative Consulting. Wanting to be proactive about her path, Donna attended the retreat and discovered that she had really been missing beauty in her life: "At the retreat, I discovered that my vision was very personal, which surprised me because I had been so focused on my career and expected my vision to follow suit. However, after I identified that I needed to be surrounded by physical beauty, I discussed it with my husband, and we moved to California from the Northeast -- 18 months after the retreat. I now have a beautiful office looking out onto the Bay, the Golden Gate Bridge and the Marin Headlands. Beauty is all around me. I love it."
Sheila Harding, SVP, Global Operations, Process Optimization and Transformation, Coach, Inc.
Like Donna, Sheila came to Frenchtown seeking more balance and wondering what her next professional steps would be. After the retreat, Sheila said her vision was still developing for a period of several months. Eventually, after engaging in brainstorming sessions with senior leaders at her company, Sheila created a brand new title and role for herself at Coach: Senior Vice President, Global Operations, in charge of Process Optimization and Transformation. She reflected on what made the visioning retreat so transformative for her: "For this visioning to truly be powerful, I had to look at my life holistically. I also redefined what success meant -- it wasn't about all the trappings of corporate life, but rather, what is going to make me happy. I had to create a different type of support system and organize my life in a different way to create more peace."
Marijo attended the retreat after a sabbatical from her coaching business. She remembers that, at the time, she was feeling lost despite a high achievement career. Her vision involved integrating all aspects of her life and calling in new ways. Since the retreat, Marijo has used this time and space to identify desired areas of professional development, such as developing her intuitive gifts and acting on personal interests, such as composing and performing music. Today, she says, "I feel great. I'm graduating next weekend from the Brennan School Healing, and I'm so enjoying integrating the skills I've learned there with my coaching practice. I have the courage to find clients who are really ready for this deep work, and I'm so much more in the moment with my clients now."

How to stick with your vision
"Create a reminder for your vision and put it somewhere you'll see everyday. I have my visioning book open on a desk. You'll also need to rally a support network to help you propel forward because it won't always be easy."
