Visionary Leader Header
Dear Reader,

Just before Halloween, I drove three teenage girls to a haunted forest for a birthday celebration. Oblivious of me, the girls spent most of the way anticipating the terrors of the forest and sharing their fears with each other -- from a fear of total darkness to a fear of heights- you name it!  I had fun just listening and noticing how engaged, funny and sympathetic they were.  Suddenly a Christmas carol came on the radio. It's not even November! was my first thought.  But from the backseat, someone said, "Oh, I love Christmas music.  It makes me feel so happy." The girl next to her agreed. Suddenly, instead of cataloguing their fears, the girls began to share all the reasons that the holiday season gives them pleasure. "People seem nicer to each other, " said one. "Yeah, and it's a time of giving and not being so focused on yourself," piped up another. Riding along, I remembered that, despite my tendency of late to notice the commercialism and glitz at this time of year. This concern had started to eclipse my awareness that the traditions of the season are deeply meaningful for people of all ages.  I'm grateful for that car ride.

At Nebo, we are wrapping up the end of the year together next week by making gifts for our friends. We'll also be choosing together to make a donation to an organization whose cause moves our team this year. I'm really looking forward to these experiences with the wonderful people who work here.  One of the biggest highlights of the season for me will be a radio show on Monday, December 17th with my dear friend and colleague Bette George.  We're going to celebrate 2012 and share some meaningful and fun ways to ring in the New Year. I hope you'll join us for a reflection on 2012 and a process that you can use with your loved ones as the year winds to a close.

Sincerely,

Kate Ebner

Bette GeorgeJoin Host Kate Ebner for the return appearance of Bette George, whose show last December on how to ring out the old year and envision the New Year was one of our most popular programs.   This year, Kate and Bette will report back on how they did with the New Year's intentions that they set for 2012, even as they share another creative and meaningful approach to ringing out the old year and ringing in the new one.  Research tells us that New Year's Resolutions last about three weeks on average.  Discover an alternative way to set yourself on a path to fulfillment and success in 2013.  Bette and Kate will offer a method you can try yourself or with friends to bring closure and celebration to 2012 and a fresh, positive start to 2013.

Launch of the Georgetown University Institute for Transformational Leadership

MITL logoembers of the faculty and staff of the Georgetown University celebrated the official launch of the Institute for Transformational Leadership in a variety of ways this week.
On Monday Kate Ebner, co-founder and co-director of the Institute, hosted four guests from the Georgetown coaching community on Visionary Leader, Extraordinary Life to collaboratively tell the life story of the Institute from vision to realization. Lloyd Raines (co-founder of the Georgetown Leadership Coaching program), Julie Shows (current co-director of the Georgetown Leadership Coaching program), Darcie Milazzo (Associate Dean of the Georgetown School of Continuing Studies and co-director of the Institute), and Alexander Caillet (faculty member of the Georgetown Leadership Coaching program) recalled the birth of the coaching program at Georgetown twelve years ago and remarked on the vision and drive that enabled the ground-breaking new Institute to come to life. For more insight on the Institute for Transformational Leadership, listen to their conversation.

The official launch of the Institute occurred yesterday evening at the Graduate Coaching Conference at the Maritime Center in Baltimore, Maryland. The event marked the debut of the Institute, which will feature innovative learning opportunities for leaders and leadership coaches. The mission of the Institute is to develop and sustain worldwide communities of transformational leaders and coaches dedicated to awakening, engaging and supporting the leadership required for a more sustainable and compassionate future. You are invited to read a message from the co-directors, browse course offerings, and watch a video from Nic Askew introducing the Institute on its website
