2011 New Blog Post Announcement

  A Fine Old Caballero

at Rancho El Diamonte, Ollantaytambo, Peru

On Day 7 of the 2012 Weaving Words & Women adventure (a day of options), five of us chose to visit the once-elegant hacienda, Rancho El Diamonte, while others either stayed in Ollanytaytambo to hike, or have a pottery lesson, or just relax at Apu Lodge. The elder vaquero was a fine gentleman and proudly showed us the trophies won by his Peruvian Pasos, and the magazines featuring articles about his horses.  His son and nephew guided us on a spectacular 3-hour ride into the mountains.  When we returned to the hacienda, El Senor stepped up into the saddle and performed for us, smiling proudly, perhaps reliving the days before the Shining Path took his livelihood from him.  An incredible day, in an incredible place.

A few more Day 7 photos: Optional ride on Peruvian Pasos,
Journaling at the Ruins of Ollantaytambo, dining and enjoying pisco sours.

TESTIMONIAL

"Page and Laura were amazing and inspirational leaders, in very different ways,

and I learned a lot just having the opportunity to observe and interact with both of

them. They brought the same joyful and curious energy to the trip that helped everyone

experience an amazing and transformational adventure...I was able to fully immerse

myself in the experience and not be distracted by daily details. Plus, the food was excellent!"
