Annual Giving
Gifts to Nature

Annual giving is the most effective way to ensure The Nature Trust of BC continues to sustain our special natural surroundings in British Columbia. If you would like to make a donation, you are welcome to do so online or call 604-924-9771 (toll free 1-866-288-7878). Remember a monthly gift allows smaller increments with one tax receipt per year.

Ian McTaggart Cowan Is "The Real Thing"
The Father of Wildlife Conservation in Canada
Ian McTaggart Cowan, widely recognized as the father of wildlife conservation in Canada, was a Director of The Nature Trust of BC for 33 years. As a tribute to this remarkable individual his biography, The Real Thing: The Natural History of Ian McTaggart Cowan, by Briony Penn has been published by Rocky Mountain Books. More details are available at cowantherealthing.com

The book launch will take place November 7th at the Beaty Biodiversity Museum at UBC.

As Rod Silver, past Director of The Nature Trust, explains, "Ian went out of his way to make anyone comfortable with his impressive knowledge. He was a patient, considerate educator who engaged people personally with enthusiasm for the natural world. I think it was important to write the biography to let the world know of his remarkable contributions to science and education. In Ian's words: "All my life I have tried to explain to colleagues, family, students - anyone who will listen to me - the beautiful, fascinating things that I see!"

Celebrating Nature & Science Gala

Thank you to all our guests, sponsors, donors, and everyone who made our Fall Gala so special.

Thanks to PEETZ Outdoors
Live Auction Donor

One of the live auction donors at The Nature Trust Gala was PEETZ Outdoors Limited. The company is celebrating the 90th anniversary of making its iconic mahogany and brass fishing reels. To commemorate the anniversary, PEETZ commissioned renowned Kwagiulth carver Jason Hunt to come up with a new "Artist Series" of reels. Because of PEETZ's commitment to the environment, especially habitat for salmon, the company made six of the Limited Edition Artist's Proofs available to conservation groups to use as fundraisers. The Nature Trust of BC was lucky enough to secure the last proof. This masterpiece sold at our Gala for $2,000 with a matching donation from a supporter to garner $4,000 for the restoration and ongoing management of the Salmon River estuary on Vancouver Island.

PEETZ owner and president Art Aylesworth says, "Our business is fishing and our passion is the great outdoors. Groups like The Nature Trust are doing critical work to help secure habitat for birds, wildlife and fish for the enjoyment of outdoor enthusiasts today and for generations to come. Our business is tied to the future of fish stocks and more importantly, so is the ability of our children to experience the fishing and outdoor adventure that we have all been fortunate enough to enjoy. Not only is the work of The Nature Trust of BC good for our business, it is a foundational piece of a responsibility we all share. We are enthusiastic supporters of The Nature Trust and look forward to continuing this important relationship for many years to come."
