Silas Bronson Library Hosts Story Hour, Combines Fun and Fitness
The Silas Bronson Library is combining this year's summer reading program for kids with physical fitness. Get fit with music and Hula Hoops on Wednesday, June 15, July 20 and August 17 at 5:00 PM in the Children's Room. Learn the basics of yoga on Friday, June 17, July 8 and August 12 at 3:30 PM. Learn how to stay active with a fun Zumba dance fitness class on Thursday, June 9, July 14 and August 18 at 6:00 PM. For ages 4 to 12. 2nd Annual Ronald Perille Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament (June 17th)
In honor of Ron Jr's. memory, the Perille family has scheduled the 2nd Ronald Perille Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament on Friday, June 17, 2016 at the Southington Country Club. All proceeds will go to the Ronald Perille Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund. Two deserving high school students will benefit from the tournament. Watermark at East Hill to host annual Book & Author Series (June 25)
On Saturday, June 25, The Watermark at East Hill will host Shana Knizhnik as part of its annual Book & Author Series. Knizhnik will discuss her book, The Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, which was co-authored by MSNBC reporter, Irin Carmon. The event begins at 2:00 p.m. at the retirement community, located at 611 East Hill Road in Southbury. The book, which explores the life and political impact of the Supreme Court Justice, was originally a popular Tumblr blog, "Notorious R.B.G," started by Knizhnik while in law school in 2013. As the second woman to be appointed as a Justice, Ginsburg has long been a champion for women's rights and is currently the oldest justice on the Supreme Court. Carmon and Knizhnik's book discusses Justice Ginsburg's life and career, as well as the Internet fame that has made her so adored amongst the millennial generation. Howard Whittemore Library Seeks Donors for Mini-Golf Tournament
The first annual Howard Whittemore Memorial Library mini-golf community event, "Tee-Off for Technology", is coming to the Library in June.  The library will become an 18-hole miniature golf course, with the course set up throughout the building. Players of all ages will putt their way through the library.  An "adults over the age of 21" event will be held on Friday evening June 17, 2016 from 6:00-9:00 pm and a "family-oriented" event will follow on Saturday, June 18, 2016 from 10:00 am- 2:00 pm. 
The Friday evening event will feature light refreshments , a trophy presentation to the best golfer and a silent auction as part of the "19th hole".  The library is seeking donations for the silent auction that evening. Gift certificates for free or discounted services will support the Library and provide a marketing opportunity for your business - all donors will be recognized in the event program.  Some suggestions are real estate appraisals, wills, tax return preparation, home and personal services, and local gift certificates. Please contact Marilyn Schiaroli at [email protected]  by  Friday, June 3,2016 to arrange for your donation.  This will also assure that you are included in the Friday evening program. IMTI Receives Recognition for NCCER Technical Career Sponsorship in Seven High Schools
The Industrial Management & Training Institute (IMTI) in Waterbury received recognition by the New York City Department of Education's Career and Technical Education division for sponsoring NCCER-National Center for Construction Education and Research's curriculum training programs in seven New York City high schools. They received their recognition during the NYC Department of Education's Construction and Sustainability Industry Commission's meeting at the Consortium for Worker Education in Manhattan. IMTI Founder Marcel Veronneau commented, "IMTI provided NCCER's sponsorship to students taking courses in the technical fields of HVAC, electrical and plumbing in seven New York City schools. We hope to provide sponsorship in additional NYC schools and throughout the Greater Waterbury region. Ion Bank Foundation Awards $60,000 to Non-Profits
The Ion Bank Foundation announced the winners of its Community Awards Program at a special ceremony awarding grants totaling $60,000 to 56 local non-profit organizations. The program, which kicked off in January, encouraged Ion Bank customers to vote for a local charity of their choice to receive a grant from the Foundation. Over 1,873 customers voted this year and organizations that received at least 1% of the total votes received a grant. In addition, for those receiving less than 1% of the total votes, a $500 grant was awarded to twenty randomly selected eligible recipients. Click here for a list of the winners!

Main Street Waterbury Receives 2016 National Main Street Accreditation

Plagued with a waiting list and over-serving beyond budget, Meals on Wheels is looking for businesses to sponsor a day of meals for homebound seniors living in the Central Naugatuck Valley region. For a $2,500 tax-deductible donation, your business can provide 350 seniors with two meals. Meals on Wheels will place your business's name on each meal and provide your business with a free advertisement and space on a Meals on Wheels truck for three months. In addition, a photo will be taken of your staff with the Meals on Wheels truck and an ad featured in one of our monthly newsletters that reaches 2,000 people in the region. O&G Hosts Touch-a-Truck Event

O&G held its second annual Touch a Truck event, capping off its 2016 Safety Week campaign. Despite a rainy Saturday, over 1,000 people from throughout the State attended the event which featured over two dozen pieces of equipment from O&G's fleet plus activities for children such as a hay ride, sand art and face painting. O&G is planning to hold the annual Touch a Truck event again next May following its 2017 Safety Week campaign.

Quilts that Care to Meet in June
Quilts that Care, an organization that makes quilts for people who undergo cancer treatment, will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Mondays, June 6 and 20 at The Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center, 1075 Chase Parkway, Waterbury. The group will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, June 7 and 21 at the Bristol Public Library, 5 High St. The group will also meet from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 15 at The Litchfield Community Center, 421 Bantam Road, Route 202, Litchfield. Currently, quilts are donated to 11 Connecticut hospitals, including The Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center, The Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute, Connecticut Children's Medical Center, Yale-New Haven Hospital and the Diebold Family Cancer Center at New Milford Hospital. Donations of fabric shop gift cards, 100 percent cotton fabric, twin-size quilt backings, cotton flannel and quilting materials are being accepted. Volunteers are being sought. Tom Hill, III, CIM/SIOR, participated in FCCBN/NHCID Building & Land Technology Event
Tom Hill, III, CIM/SIOR, owner of Tom Hill Realty & Investments, LLC, in Waterbury, a Fairfield, Litchfield and New Haven County commercial realtor, attended the FCCBN-Fairfield County Commercial Brokers Network's Building and Land Technology (BLT) power luncheon with the New Haven Commercial Investment Division (NHCID) in April. Uniquely Yours Earns Portrait Photographer of the Year
For the second year in a row, photographer Tina Petta-Pelletier was the recipient of the Portrait Photographer of the Year Award for the most points accumulated during the year from print competition at the recently held Connecticut Professional Photographers Association (CTPPA) convention in Rocky Hill. She also received the prestigious PPA Certified Professional Photographer Award for the third time in a row, which is given to the highest scoring print by a certified professional photographer. Her fine art portrait titled: "Stella and Lola" received this award. Tina has also reaffirmed her status as an elite photographer, once again earning the Certified Professional Photographer (CPP) designation from Professional Photographers of America.
