Ace Cosmetology and Barber Training Center
On Tuesday, January 6, Ace Cosmetology and Barber Training Center celebrated a ribbon cutting at their location at 625 Wolcott Street in Waterbury. The center offers students the chance to learn all of the necessary skills to become a successful cosmetologist or barber. "Born Fat" to Be Featured at Seven Angels Theatre - Runs January 15th - 31st
A play based on the life and story of Waterbury Chamber member Elizabeth Petruccione of Losing Weight with Elizabeth, is coming to Seven Angels Theatre in January. "Elizabeth Anne, you were born fat!" These words, uttered by her mother, have followed Elizabeth her whole life. Despite weight loss fads that promise miracle results, she just can't seem to escape the legacy of those words. Waterbury's own Elizabeth Petruccione, the irrepressible founder of "Losing Weight With Elizabeth," shares how she ditched the husky section for health and happiness. Joy can be found at any size! Waterbury Symphony to Hold "Instruments 4 Kids" Drive - Closing Event 
The Waterbury Symphony Orchestra presents "Instruments 4 Kids" - Waterbury's first-ever musical instrument donation drive that began in mid-December. Community members are asked to donate instruments in working condition at drop-off sites and/or sponsor the purchase of new instruments for kids in school instrumental music programs. Instruments will go primarily to Waterbury area schools and cultural centers with music education programs that are in partnership with the WSO and to other schools as available. A closing event will be held on Sunday, February 7 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm in the lobby of the Mattatuck Museum to coincide with the final day of the Museum's exhibit "A Wonderland of Snow: The Life and Music of Leroy Anderson". WSO Musicians will perform some Anderson favorites such as "Sleigh Ride" and instrument donors will be offered free hot chocolate and a free Instruments for Kids/Bravo Waterbury coffee mug. Waterbury area businesses are asked to forward the Instruments 4 Kids e-mail notice to employees, customers, clients, and contacts. Acts 4 Ministry, Inc. and New Opportunities, Inc. Seeking Coats & Accessories
Acts 4 Ministry Inc., a non-denominational, non-profit charitable organization, and New Opportunities, Inc., are accepting donations of coats and winter accessories for children, women and men to be distributed on January 18, 2016, Martin Luther King Day, at the New Opportunities Auditorium, for their collaborative Martin Luther King Day - Day of Service Clothing Giveaway event. They are seeking gently-used apparel for adults and children including coats, hats, gloves, scarves, blankets, new socks and new thermals. Donations can be brought to Acts 4 Ministry's building at 1713 Thomaston Avenue in Waterbury through January 16, 2016." On January 16 only, donations can also be brought to New Opportunities at 232 North Elm Street in Waterbury from 8:00 a.m. to 4 p.m.
 
Day Chiropractic becomes Capitol Chiropractic Center
Member Day Chiropractic has undergone a name change, becoming the Capitol Chiropractic Center.  The practice has joined the Capitol Chiropractic Connecticut group, and Dr. Francis Day will still be serving patients. Main Street Waterbury Selects Window Décor Winners
Main Street Waterbury would like to thank all the downtown Waterbury merchants and organizations who participated in the 2015 Holiday Window Decoration Competition. In the opinion of the judging panel, the 15 participants provided the best overall quality of window displays to date; making the selection of winners that much more difficult. A panel of judges reviewed the participating windows selected the following winners: Best Overall and Best Design: Princess Lingerie Shop (pictured center); Most Creative and Best Design Runner-up: Rollins Printing & Publishing (pictured right); Most Creative Runner-up: Ideal Jewelers; Best Visual Impact: Karmic Inspirations (pictured left); Best Visual Impact Runner-up: Palace Theater; Green Award and Best Outdoor Display: Signatures Restaurant; Green Award Runner-up: Brass City Market on Bank Street; Best Outdoor Display Runner up: Greater Waterbury YMCA; Holiday Spirit Award: Mar-Vic Cleaners & Tailors; Honorable Mention: Shakesperience Productions, Tony's Men's Shop, and John Bale Book Company. In addition, participating merchants were able to encourage their patrons to vote for their windows in the "People's Choice" category by either completing paper ballots or texting in their votes. People's Choice Award Winners were: Karmic Inspirations (1st Place); Mar-Vic Cleaners & Tailors (2nd Place); Princess Lingerie Shop (3rd Place); Rollins Printing & Publications (4th Place); Shakesperience and the Greater Waterbury YMCA (tied for 5th Place); Cricket Phones (6th Place); Brass City Market on Bank Street (7th Place).
O&G Industries Donates Toys, Receives Recognition
O&G Industries, Connecticut's largest privately-held construction firm, donated over 500 toys to the Torrington Area Youth Service Bureau (TYSB) that will benefit over 130 Torrington-area children this holiday season. This is the 10th year that O&G's staff have supported the TYSB toy drive. "Our staff is incredibly generous" stated O&G Contract Administrator Lynn Robotham. "Every year I put out a call to donate toys and they always come through for the children." Earlier this month, O&G was recognized with a CCIA Community Service Award for their support of the TYSB Toy Drive and the Torrington Fire Department's Christmas for Children Toy Drive. The award marked O&G's second consecutive CCIA Community Service Award win.

Quilts that Care, Inc. to Meet, Seeking Work and Storage Space
Quilts that Care, an organization that makes quilts for people who undergo cancer treatment, will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18 at The Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center, 1075 Chase Parkway, Waterbury.  The group will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19 at the Bristol Public Library, 5 High St. They will also meet from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20 at The Litchfield Community Center, 421 Bantam Road, Route 202, Litchfield. Currently, quilts are donated to eight Connecticut Hospitals, including The Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center, Saint Mary's VITAS, Bristol Hospital and Yale-New Haven Hospital. Donations of fabric shop gift cards, 100 percent cotton fabric, twin-size quilt backings, cotton flannel, quilting materials, and gallon Ziploc bags are being accepted. The donation of work and storage space of 800 to 1,000 sq. feet, as well as the donation of heat and electricity in the greater Waterbury area, would be gratefully accepted. The group will meet Saturdays and some Friday evenings. Volunteers are being sought. Quilters are especially needed. Monetary donations can be given through PayPal at
