Kick-Off of Winter Reading Program Youth Services Department Join us for the kick-off of our first winter reading program for ages 0 to 12.During the
Kick-off you will receive the reading record and instruction.
  
January 4: 1-2pm Cook Book Club A new kind of book club open to teens and adults. Join us for a potluck lunch each month on the first Monday. Contact The Information Services desk at
252-442-1951 extension 3 to register to join the club, to choose your cookbook, or for more information.

January 5: 5:30-7:30pm S.C.O.R.E. & Braswell Library team up to bring a Tax Information Program specifically for small business owners. Rhonda High from the NCDoR will be here to explain tax regulations and answer your questions. Contact Joetta Pittman at 252-442-1951 ext. 239 to register to attend the workshop, or for more information.

January 6: 11:00am-12:00pm "Trap the Gingerbread Man!" Join us for some engineering fun as we explore and build a trap to catch the escaped gingerbread man. This is a part of our new monthly program series based on STEAM. 

January 7: 5:30-7:30pm Movie Night and Discussion- PBS POV Documentary "Neurotypical" by filmmaker Adam Larsen is an unprecedented exploration of autism from the point of view of autistic people themselves. For more information contact Kesha Joyner 252-442-1951 ext.253.

January 12: 4:30-5:30pm "Imperial Centre StarLab"
StarLab is an incredible precise, interactive and exciting planetarium. StarLab has a unique ability to draw everyone into the wonderful, magical world of Astronomy! Come join us under the dome! In the Warner Meeting Room. Contact Linda Bunch 442-1951 ext. 244
  
January 13: 11-12pm "Rocky's Sweet Treat Story Time and Play Time" Youth Services Story Room Braswell Memorial Library is excited to announce a new monthly morning activity for children between the ages of 3 to 5. Dramatic play is becoming wildly popular in libraries.  It is the combination of story time and play time. What fun! Our first in the monthly series will be based on a cookie shop.  We will hear and great story about cookies and then pretend to operate a cookie shop.
  
January 14: 5:30-7:30pm Minecraft Design Club
Work with other teens to design and create in the world of Minecraft in the 2nd floor Computer Lab.

January 15: 7-9pm "Coffee with the StarsJoin Braswell Memorial Library and the Cummins Planetarium for a night of star gazing and hot beverages on the library's back lawn.

January 16: 1-2:30pm All Things Gingerbread!
In the Warner Room come celebrate the middle of our Winter Reading Program with crafts and activities based on our theme: Gingerbread. It's going to be a sweet time.
January 17-23
January 18: Closed for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

January 19: 6:30-7:30pm ACT Strategies Students in NCpublic schools can take the ACT at no cost on March 1st.  Make the most of it!  Join Sheba Lowe Brown from A+ Test Prep & Academic Services for a free ACT Strategy Session! in the Warner Room

January 20: 5:30-7pm Teen Advisory Board (TAB)
Teens meet to discuss ideas for teen programing, materials, and services in the Wiley Room

January 25: 2-3pm 10:30am-12:00pm Good Reads Book Club will meet in the Wiley Room. The group will be discussing the book "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" by Rebecca Skloot. If you are interested in becoming a member of the book club, please contact Kesha 442-1951 ext. 253.
  
January 28: 5-7:30pm Family Game Night A variety of games (board, card, computer, etc.) will be available for play with friends or family. Teens can also sign up for Minecraft in the Computer Lab. Refreshments will be provided in the Teen Area and the Computer Lab.

January 30: 1-2pm "It's Lego Time" Youth Services Story Room Please join us for our monthly Lego Club Meeting. This month will be a gingerbread theme. Using Legos, build a trap that can capture the gingerbread man. We will then use our stop motion camera to create a movie to see if your trap worked!
