From the Director's Desk:
Season's greetings,
As the year comes to a close we would like to thank all of our patrons, supporters, and staff for making this library a place of study, of community engagement, and of stories from books set in every time and place imaginable. Because of you, our library can support reading and learning for a lifetime and provide access to technology for everyone. Happy holidays and best wishes for a wonderful new year.

" Braswell Memorial Library promotes art and our local artist community

Braswell Library adds art to its offerings. Beginning in February with an exhibit of art photographs by Donna Hodgins, the library will host art exhibitions. Providing gallery space at the library is a wonderful opportunity for the public to see and experience the amazing talents of the artists right in our community. Using this beautiful public building to display and promote art is a winning situation. Local artists have another venue in which to show their work to the public and library visitors can discover artists and view works that they might not otherwise encounter.

The library has installed gallery system hardware in the Battle Reading Room and along the long wall in the second floor quiet study area. There is also space in the Battle Reading Room and in the Youth Services Area for art exhibits that do not hang on walls. Local artists are invited to exhibit at the library. Works of art can be offered for sale while on display, but it is the responsibility of the artist to provide all contact information as the library will not act as an agent or participate in any transaction. Sold works will remain on display until the date that the exhibit is scheduled to end. The library is excited to launch this program and we encourage artists to participate. Please contact Catherine Roche or Phillip Whitford for more details.
" Everyone's included

Your library is one of the most important places in town. As our lives become more and more enmeshed in technology, the library and the services it offers become increasingly important. While libraries historically have been invested in promoting reading and literacy to support a well-informed citizenry, the mandate has widened to include developing a digitally inclusive society. Simply put, the library is the community organization that strives to promote access and use of information and communication technologies to everyone.

Without the ability to access and use technology it is impossible to fully participate in today's economy. Your local library provides broadband high-speed internet through free Wi-Fi access and library provided computer equipment. Library staff members assist individuals through guidance and instruction. Library resources such as Reference USA and partnerships with organizations like SCORE support small business and entrepreneurs. Public libraries empower people to develop to their full capacity by removing barriers to information technology.
