This year we are focusing on the rise of innovation districts -- dynamic and disruptive places that are attracting young companies and reviving cities.
Our annual report card on Rochester's regional economy will touch on the growing innovation sector, and will be followed by a national Brookings Institution expert. Brookings just released a national study tracking the shifting geography of innovation ("The Rise of Innovation Districts"). Rochester is a prime example.
We'll start off with an Innovation EXPO mid-morning that will feature downtown innovation and technology companies, and the incubators and hubs that serve them. This interactive EXPO will give attendees a chance to meet the people behind the companies, and learn how they're contributing to a growing innovation scene in our downtown.
You'll hear the highlights on the City of Rochester's just-launched Office of Innovation & Strategic Initiatives, which is already exploring unconventional ways to solve tough community problems and attracting the attention of national foundations.
The event will close with several explosive announcements which will catalyze our local pipeline for moving ideas to the creation of real Rochester companies.
