40th Anniversary: New Columns Celebrate People and Events

We are excited to celebrate our 40th anniversary this year - and to highlight some of our achievements along with the people AHC touches - and who are such an integral part of our success. To bring these stories to life, we are kicking off two new online columns. Click below to read the first ones and stay tuned for many more in the year ahead.

Jackson Crossing
New Alexandria Property is 95% Leased

Jackson Crossing is a brand-new mid-rise affordable apartment community on Route 1 in Alexandria, VA, across from Potomac Yards.

Along with a great location, the 78-unit community also features underground parking, a rooftop patio, an onsite management office and a preschool in the planning stages.

There are only a few two-bedroom units available. Leasing office hours  are Monday - Friday, 9:00 am to 7:00 pm and Saturday - Sunday, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. For more information, please call the AHC Management onsite office at 703-310-7229.
Partners, volunteers, residents and local leaders celebrated a huge milestone in the Energy Masters Program - 500 participating residents.

Energy Masters Program Helps AHC Residents Save Energy and Dollars

The Energy Masters Program, which teaches low- and moderate-income Arlington apartment residents how to save money through conserving energy and water, has helped hundreds of AHC families.

The partnership, which includes Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment, the Virginia Cooperative Extension and Arlington Thrive, recently celebrated its 500th participating resident at a celebration at Fort Henry Gardens

Lolita Smith, a 17-year Fort Henry resident, shared her appreciation for the program. "I learned quite a bit about conserving energy and saving money," said Smith. "The program has made a big difference."

Along with partners, volunteers and apartment residents, Libby Garvey (Arlington County Board Chair) and Justin Wilson (Alexandria City Vice Mayor) joined the celebration.
Davis Place Wins Design Award

Davis Place, a 10-unit condominium for moderate-income homeowners in Arlington's Nauck neighborhood, has won a DESIGNArlington Merit Award.

The biennial awards program aims to increase public awareness of outstanding design in Arlington. Many thanks to Cunningham + Quill Architects and Abramson Properties, contractor.
Celebrating Our Wonderful Volunteers!

Each year we have a special Happy Hour to show our appreciation for our many volunteers and the time and effort they make to help our students. It's a small thanks for the difference they are making to our children and the community.

We also celebrate individuals who have volunteered for five years. This year's honorees are Santosh Chokhani and Carl Dohrman. Both are very skilled math tutors and priceless to our program. We hope you will both continue to work your magic for years and years to come!

Our many community partners are also key contributors to our program.

This year, Timothy Cotman, Arlington Public Schools, and Michael Swisher, Arlington Partnership for Children, Youth and Families, spoke to volunteers about the important role they are playing in our students' lives. "You are like family," said Cotman. "And an integral part of students' success." Echoed Michael Swisher, " Kids should have three adults in their lives. You are part of that network; you are part of that critical support."

We appreciate Iota Club & Cafe's hospitality!
