CUP LAUNCHES IN LOS ANGELES
In October 2012, CUP hosted its first Distinguished Leadership Series (DLS) event in Los Angeles. Following that event we received tremendous feedback from professionals of color and women in the Los Angeles area who were interested in leadership development. As a result, CUP launched a pilot program and hosted a second DLS event in October 2013. Many thanks to our 33 CUP in LA Founders who have made the decision to join us and be a part of our organization's mission in LA. On Wednesday, October 23, 2013, CUP in Los Angeles held a Distinguished Leadership Series event, sponsored by Disney | ABC Television Group and hosted at Creative Artists Agency. The evening featured a panel discussion with Marissa Garcia, Agent, Creative Artists Agency; Keli Lee, Executive Vice President, Casting, ABC Entertainment Group; Paula Williams Madison, Partner, Williams Group Holdings LLC and CEO, LA Sparks; Christopher Reynolds, General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer, Toyota North America; and moderated by, Charles Lee CEO, Ideation and Author, Good Idea. Now What? The panelists discussed essential skills & tools required for successful leadership, insights on the journey to success, fostering creativity & innovation in leadership, and creating a leadership development pipeline for the next generation. 4TH ANNUAL LAWYERS FORUM
On Tuesday, October 29, 2013, CUP hosted its 4th Annual Lawyers Forum, featuring a Keynote Conversation with Michele Coleman Mayes, Vice President and General Counsel, The New York Public Library and Teri Plummer McClure,Chief Legal, Communications and Compliance Officer, UPS. The event was moderated by Paul M. Barrett, Assistant Managing Editor & Senior Writer, Bloomberg Businessweek. Mayes and McClure shared their leadership insights, perspectives on the state of diversity in the legal community, and thoughts on how companies can look at diversity as a business paradigm. 5TH ANNUAL MEDIA & ENTERTAINMENT FORUM
On Tuesday, November 12, 2013, CUP hosted its 5th Annual Media & Entertainment Forum, featuring a Keynote Conversation with Dick Parsons, Senior Advisor, Providence Equity Partners, LLC. Lisa Garcia Quiroz, Chief Diversity Officer and Senior Vice President of Corporate Responsibility, Time Warner Inc., was the moderator for the evening. Parsons discussed his transition across sectors and attributed his success to relationships with mentors, taking chances, tenacity, and self-confidence. Click here to see pictures from the event.

CUP CATALYSTS: CHANGE AGENTS 2013
Professionals of color and women starting in their careers need more role models among us. CUP Catalysts are the leaders who demonstrate that doing well and doing good need not be incompatible. Our lists of CUP Catalysts: Change Agents 2013 in law and media & entertainment recognize the accomplishments of leaders across the legal, media, entertainment, advertising, and technology sectors, who have achieved extraordinary success in business while making a significant impact in their communities.

2013 CUP FELLOWS GIVE BACK
Through the CUP Fellows Capstone Projects, the 2013 CUP Fellows worked collaboratively with the Food Bank For New York City, YWCA of the City of New York, and the New York Urban League for the past six months to solve a problem or enhance a process in order to make a significant, positive impact on the client organization and the communities they serve. On November 23, the Capstone teams presented their final recommendations to their client organizations. The Capstone event also featured a panel discussion with the client organizations, who discussed their successes and challenges and how the CUP community can get involved in their worthy causes.
FALL 2013 CUP ELP KICK-OFF RETREAT
On Thursday, November 14, the Fall 2013 CUP Executive Leadership Program (CUP ELP) kicked-off with an intensive skills-based retreat at the Wyndham Hamilton Park Hotel & Conference Center in Florham Park, NJ. CUP ELP is CUP's signature initiative aimed at developing the pipeline of senior professionals of color and women. Through a structured series of workshops, coaching sessions, and conversations with senior business leaders, participants came away from the retreat with greater self-awareness and actionable plans to implement their newly acquired skills and strategies to position themselves for opportunities in their organizations. Alison Moore, Executive Director & Assistant General Counsel at JP Morgan Morgan Chase & Co., has joined the board of Urban Assembly School for Law & Justice / Adams Street Foundation.
CUP MEMBERS ON THE MOVE
Joe Richburg, 2013 CUP Fellow, has been promoted from Assistant General Counsel of CBS Corporation in the Litigation Department to Vice President.
THE SHEILA C. JOHNSON LEADERSHIP FELLOWSHIP
The Harvard Kennedy School (HKS) has just announced the launch of its Sheila C. Johnson Leadership Fellowship to bring ten emerging leaders to the school each year who are dedicated to improving the lives of the undeserved in the United States, including those in the African-American community. The Sheila C. Johnson Leadership Fellowship will provide a full tuition scholarship, a living stipend, and a comprehensive co-curricular program administered through the School's Center for Public Leadership to ten promising, diverse leaders each year.
