HUNGRY?
Most college students are hungry, be it for food, for relationships that matter, for learning, for hope. Restaurants are there when hungering for food, but what about the other hungers? There is a restaurant of sorts called Christ Chapel for just that reason. We do the food thing, of course, at least twice a week, but we meet the other hungers even better. "Restaurant" comes from a French word meaning, "to restore," and restoring is at the heart of our work. So if you're hungering for meaningful relationships, for knowing the incredible gift of grace that is Jesus, for hope even in the middle of the mess that life can be, we welcome you. The menu at our restaurant is short, but the meal is filling; it's love, and it will fill you up. And the best part: it's free.

HUNGER BOWL There are some in Hays County for whom the subject of hunger is a constant. That's why we are joining our friends at UCM-Wesley, the Catholic Student Center, and the Baptist Student Movement to sell food on the Quad on November 18th and 19th. All proceeds will go to the Turkeys Tackling Hunger program of the Hays County Food Bank. We'll be selling sausage wraps again this year, so come by and lend a hand or buy a wrap or two or twenty. We begin at 10:00.

COOKING FOR THE HOMELESS - NOVEMBER 18th
The homeless of San Marcos have no shelter, but Southside Community Center provides a free meal every night of the week. A few churches and other groups provide a meal on a monthly basis, but not many. That is why our ministry of cooking a meal once a month is so important. We cook on the third Monday of each month, starting at 3:00 in the Christ Chapel kitchen. We transport the meal to Southside at 4:45 and then serve the meal from 5:00 to 6:30. Hands are needed for every phase of the operation, from cooking and cleaning at Christ Chapel to serving and cleaning up at Southside.

Come join us on Tuesday evening, Nov. 19th from 7:30-9:00 p.m. for conversation and beverages at Tantra Coffee House, across Hopkins St. from the little HEB. Our topic to start will be the spiritual necessity and gift that is gratitude, but we rarely stay on topic for too long. Bring your own questions and even your doubts.

| COMING SOON ON A WEDNESDAY NIGHT
We always begin with dinner at 6:15, then worship at 7:00. Here are the themes...
November 20: Evening Prayer with a Professor
Dr. Hunter Close from the Department of Physics will join us to answer the question, "How does your confession of faith affect your profession?"
November 27: Why are You Here?
That is, at Christ Chapel. There's no school today. You should be at home or at someone's house for Thanksgiving. If you have no place to go on Thanksgiving, call Pr. Jaime.
December 4: Service of Healing
This is a quiet and gentle service where we use a variety of means to pray for healing and wholeness. It's not like the TV evangelist's healings, so don't weird out. This will be our last Wednesday evening service of the semester.

Christmas Party!
It's almost time for our annual Christmas Party and Late-Night Breakfast. We'll hold it on Thursday, December 5th starting at 7:00 p.m. with tree and cookie decorating. At 8:30 we'll have a White Elephant Gift Exchange, where you are encouraged to bring a gift, goofy or otherwise, for exchange with someone else. Try not to spend more than $5 on whatever gift you bring. At 10:30, we'll have breakfast, with eggs, sausage, bacon, pancakes, hashbrowns, milk and juice. A Christmas Trivia Quiz will be part of the meal; best score will win a prize. Stay afterwards for board games or games on the Wii.
UCM-Wesley Invites Us To Their Christmas Party! Our friends in the building have invited us to join them for their annual Snowball Banquet on Saturday, December 7th. The dinner will be preceded by Christmas caroling at a nursing home. Meet at our building at 5:00 to carpool. Oh, and Snowball Banquet is a dress-up affair, so find shirts with buttons. |

SOME CHANGES FOR 2014
We'll continue our Sunday schedule as usual, but we will be adding a Monday noon lunch to our programming mix, sharing cooking responsibilities with the UCM-Wesley. Part of the meal will include a few minutes promoting our Wednesday night activities. For the first few weeks, we will continue having a Wednesday evening meal, but if the lunch proves successful, we will drop it and focus on building up the lunch effort.

Having completed sampling the Hot and Sour soup at every restaurant that serves it here in San Marcos, the hands-down winner is Asian Garden. Yes, Asian Garden, the otherwise just okay Chinese restaurant on Guadalupe. The soup is rich and generously laced with vegetables, mushrooms, and tofu. They use a base of chicken stock, so it's not vegetarian, but there are no bits of chicken floating around to get all grainy and gross, as is the case in some other restaurants. It is just the right combination of spicy and sour and is certainly inexpensive ($4.00 for a very large serving, $2.00 for the small). The only drawback is that it's served at the temperature of lava, so you'll have to wait a while until it cools down enough to eat.

Our campus mission is to be a welcoming spiritual community, a place for people of any gender, race, national origin, and sexual orientation. Growing together in faith, we seek the unity that Christ envisions for His church through learning, liturgical worship, service, and fellowship. |
