Sunday and Wednesday Worship: 7:00 p.m., free suppers at 6:15
510 N. Guadalupe (across from the Tower Garage)

Our Purpose:  In gratitude for God's mercy in Christ, we shall be a community of worship, service, and hospitality.
Wessendorff Retreat - Last Chance!
We leave on Friday, September 19th, for 2 nights at Wessendorff, an absolutely beautiful retreat center near Blanco, Texas.  At only $10, this is a bargain and a great time.  You must reserve your spot by Thursday, September 18th, 5:00 p.m. if you plan to go.  Bring $10, bedding, a swimsuit, games and/or snacks to share.  Our theme: Spiritual Practices.  You'll have lots of time for studying, if you should so choose.  Check our webpage for pictures of the Narrows, the amazing swimming hole that's actually the exposed surface of the Edward's Aquifer.
T-SHIRTS: ORDER BY SEPTEMBER 22

Our new t-shirts will be ordered on September 23, so get your request in before then through e-mail or sign up at worship.  Cost:  $5.00  Indicate your size, of course.

Higher Grounds:  What's Wrong with Free?

Our Higher Grounds Coffee House is up and running, thanks to staffing by several students and friends of the ministry.  We open at 8:30 each day and invite you to stop by for free, organic, fair-trade, shade-grown, perfectly brewed coffee, with an assortment of creamers, sugars, etc.  We can also make iced coffee, tea, and cocoa.  Bring your own travel mug, if you can, just 'cause our landfills don't need more disposable cups.

Reviews:

Five Guys French Fries: Tasty, and it seems like tons per order, even for the little size.  I can't imagine be able to eat a large order, and I am all about the fries. Thick, skin-on, and always hot, they come in regular and Cajun style. Their vegetarian sandwich is pretty good, too, and I'm told the hamburgers are great, but don't order the regular sized unless you're up for a challenge.  The little burger is big enough.

Million Second Quiz:  It's part trivia show, part endurance competition as contestants spend a million seconds , constantly answering questions about pop culture and history.  Of course, not all contestants last the full 11 1/2 days; only those on Champions Row.  They get by on as little sleep as possible so that they can answer more questions than anyone else, and thus earn a chance to get more money.  Sometimes challengers are triumphant and the champion goes down; last time I saw it, the champion lost over $200,000 and the challenger got her money and is now himself on Champion Row.  You can play along on a smartphone. Despite the trivia, it's basically a mindless show, but sometimes that can be just what one needs.

Exercise:  Since I had not regularly exercised since playing soccer in college, I thought it would be a good idea to try it again.  I'll let you know how it goes, but in essence I'm told it's good for you.
COMING SOON ON A WEDNESDAY NIGHT

We always begin with dinner at 6:15, then worship at 7:00.  Here are the themes for the next few weeks...

September 25:  What Icons Can Teach Us
We'll explore the Orthodox tradition of using icons in worship and as an aid to spirituality.
October 2:  Evening Prayer with a Professor
Dr. Amy Meeks, Professor of Psychology, will join us to answer the question, "How does your confession of faith affect your profession?"
October 9: What Hats are You Wearing?
We all have different roles we play, often at the same time. On this night, we'll explore roles, vocation, and discipleship.
October 16: Praying Through the iPad
Formerly Praying Through the Papers, we will learn and practice making the news we hear a time for prayer.
keeping weird NEW SIGN ON THE QUAD
Look for the new Christ Chapel sign on the Quad in the weeks ahead.  A flyer's been made to answer the question, "What makes Christ Chapel weird?"  The answers: "We don't have a band.  We do have liturgy.  We take the Bible seriously, but not literally.  We don't mind hard questions or doubts.  We thinks Jesus is about transformation, not condemnation.  We think gay people are fine just the way they are.  We think following Jesus is the best and hardest way of life you'll ever find."  And yes, that does make our ministry weird compared to many others, but it is the kind of weird that is faithful, joyful, life-giving, and grace-filled.  Stop by and say hi.

Our campus mission is to be a welcoming spiritual community, a place for people of any gender, race, national origin, and sexual orientation. Growing together in faith, we seek the unity that Christ envisions for His church through learning, liturgical worship, service, and fellowship.
