A Campus Ministry for ALL Students, Supported by the Episcopal and Lutheran Churches

Sunday and Wednesday Worship: 7:00 p.m., free suppers at 6:15
510 N. Guadalupe (across from the Tower Garage)

Our Purpose:  In gratitude for God's mercy in Christ, we shall be a community of worship, service, and hospitality.
Bye, Bye, Bradford:  We'll Miss You!
Brad Eubanks joined Christ Chapel as a program assistant in August of 2010.  We've been blessed to have him with us much longer than we first thought we would, but the time has come to say goodbye to Brad as his employment at Christ Chapel ends.  We will honor him for his service this coming Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. Bring your well-wishes as we remember together a great three years.
UPCOMING EVENTS

July 2nd - Tubing Time!  We'll gather at 3:00 at Christ Chapel for some professional tubing.  Free.  Bring sunscreen.

July 7th - No Worship Service that Evening!  We give our musician and clergy a break on the weekend closest to the Fourth of July, so plan on attending a church near you in the morning.  St. Mark's Episcopal services are at 8:00 and 11:00 and First Lutheran's are at 10:30.

July 15th - Cooking for the Homeless.  We'll gather at 3:00 to cook for the 50 to 60 men, women, and children who depend on the Southside Community Center for supper.  Come to help cook (3:00 - 5:00), serve (5:00 - 6:30) or clean up (5:00 - 6:00); Lauren Sorell will be taking the lead on the cooking this night.

Almost Every Weekend:  Work on the Episcopal Habitat for Humanity Build - See the Diocese of West Texas website (dwtx.org) for more information and important forms that must be filled out in advance.

New Student Orientation

Did you know we will be welcoming over 9,000 new students to campus this fall?  Every one of them will be take part in one of 17 New Student Orientation days, and the Dean of Student's office is allowing the recognized campus ministries of Texas State a presence at those orientations. Can you help with the welcome?  The following dates are open:  June 26 and 28, July 15, 16, 17, 23, 25, 29, and August 1st, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  Your job: smile, be pleasant, answer questions about Christ Chapel, give out literature about us or one of the other ministries represented at our table.  You are not to be like a carnival barker or like some of the groups you may have seen on the quad. You simply wait for people to stop and then talk to them.  It's a great way to make a good impression AND to get students informed about the ministry.

Reviews:

Man of Steel: Things blow up exceedingly well in this retelling of the DC Comic classic, always a positive.  Unfortunately, the new story takes a gritty film-noir approach to the main character; he morosely wallows through scene after scene, all the while sorting out his moral universe.  The "S" on his cape is a Kryptonian symbol for hope, we learn, but the Man of Steel is less about hope than resignation.  Other problems: Isn't it still too soon to be totally trashing New York City?  And for the love of Pete, would someone teach Russel Crowe to act?

Now You See Me:  Suspenseful, humorous, engaging; four magicians pull off an amazing heist, stealing millions of dollars and giving it all away.  Why? How?  And whose behind it all? Not the most profound movie, but very entertaining and a study in revenge.

Brick Oven Cafe:  Located in the old Phoenix Rising Bakery, the Brick Oven Cafe has a small lounge-like dining area and patio seating that faces old Ranch Road 12.  The brick oven is used to slow-smoke brisket and chicken, two of a dozen offerings on their menu.  I tried a black-bean, cheese and egg breakfast taco, which was good and quite fresh.  The salsa was homemade and spicy.  Breakfast is served all day, and there is free delivery to customers at the Grey Horse Saloon until 2:00 a.m.  The owner greets, cooks, waits tables, operates the cash register, and probably washes the dishes, so I don't know what kind of wait you'd have on a busy day.  All that said, it's locally owned and not a chain, so give it a try.
COMING SOON...
Dates will soon be announced for "deep cleaning" of the more heavily used rooms of our facility.  Our kitchen, Higher Grounds Coffee House, the sanctuary, narthex and little chapel in particular will need attention.  Nothing says "welcome" like a clean, well-cared for facility.

Our campus mission is to be a welcoming spiritual community, a place for people of any gender, race, national origin, and sexual orientation. Growing together in faith, we seek the unity that Christ envisions for His church through learning, liturgical worship, service, and fellowship.
