     A SHORT NEWSLETTER OF

THINGS NOT TO MISS!

We don't want to bombard you with a full newsletter, because there are five things coming up that we don't want you to miss, and that's easy to happen when a newsletter is too long.  So, without any further ado...

Bishop Lillibridge is in the house!

THIS Sunday, September 30th, The Rt. Rev. Gary Lillibridge, Episcopal Bishop of West Texas, will be joining us at Christ Chapel to confirm the one, the only, Tyler James Mahan!  This will follow a wonderfully fresh, free, home-cooked meal at 6:15.  We would love to see everyone turn out to support Tyler in this important milestone, and to greet the Bishop, who is a graduate of Texas State and of this campus ministry.

Christ Chapel Hosts "The Line" World Premiere

As part of a broader campaign to bring light to the new faces of poverty and the aftermath of the recession, national Christian non-profit Sojourners has produced a documentary film called The Line. The 30-minute film uncovers the emerging and entrenched faces of poverty in our country - such as the suburban former banker, who now relies on a food pantry; to an aging career fisherman, whose shrimping business has been devastated by the after-effects of Hurricane Katrina and the BP oil spill in the Gulf Coast.

The world premiere, which will be held in Washington, D.C., on October 2, 2012, is accompanied by more than 1,100 simultaneous screenings across the country, including here at Christ Chapel, 510 N. Guadalupe, at 7:00 p.m. The movie will be followed by a panel discussion from Washington, D.C., streamed over the Internet.  Come for just the film or for the full event. Refreshments provided by Free Thought Central Texas.  No reservations required, but if you are coming from off-campus, car-pooling is strongly encouraged, as we've limited parking.

LATE NIGHT BREAKFAST BIBLE STUDY: October 2nd , 10:00 p.m.

Come join us for a look into the Bible and a great breakfast at 10:00 at night.  We'll have Scripture, pancakes, sausage, eggs, orange juice, milk, and coffee, and it's all free.  Since Christ Chapel will have hosted a film about poverty earlier in the evening, we will be looking at what Jesus taught about poverty in his day and time.

SERVANTS OF THE CROSS: GO DEEP INTO THE BIBLE

Christ Chapel's ministry is open to all students, staff, and faculty of Texas State University, and to adults who are interested in supporting the ministry's goals. Participants are not required to attend a certain number of times in order to be considered part of the ministry.  However, some students may choose to explore their faith lives more intentionally through the ministry of Christ Chapel. Toward that end, students are invited to enroll in Servants of the Cross, an order of students in ministry.

Students enrolled in Servants of the Cross make a commitment to completing three units of study over a three-semester period. This semester's offering is a survey of biblical history and content.  By the completion of this unit, you will be able to open a Bible to any page and know the context of the passage, which is more than slightly important.  Knowing the context is the first step in knowing what the Spirit is speaking to us in a passage.

Servants of the Cross for this semester will meet on Sunday evenings at 8:30 starting on October 8th for 6 weeks; meetings will be completed by 9:45 p.m. Enrollment is limited, so please register your intent with Pr. Bouzard as soon as possible.

Future units include the foundations of the Christian faith (Spring, 2013) and an exploration of spirituality and leadership development (Fall, 2013).

Women's Spirituality Group

"You're a man. You just don't understand". . .  It's a complaint I've heard more than once, and it is usually true.   That is why we are creating space at Christ Chapel for those conversations to take place, where women can discuss what it means to be a spiritual, Christian woman in these times.  A new group is forming, led by The Rev. Lori Ruge-Jones.  If you would like to be a part of the group and have a say in its meeting times and topics, please meet with her in Higher Grounds Coffee House immediately following THIS Sunday's 7:00 pm worship service (September 30th).
