New Research

The early care and education workforce is more educated and stable than previously believed, according to a new study from HHS' Administration for Children and Families. The study finds that 53 percent of center-based early care and education providers have at least an associate's degree. But the median income for a full-time center-based provider is just $22,000 per year. The study includes estimated counts of teachers and caregivers in all types of settings, and their education, experience, wages, health insurance and other characteristics. Child Trends is part of the research team contributing to this and other briefs from the National Survey of Early Care and Education.

There are an estimated  100,000 kids who are waiting for adoption. Child Trends evaluated Wendy's Wonderful Kids, a program of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, and found it to be effective especially for youth who are frequently hard to place, like older youth and those with diagnosed mental health disorders. Learn more about what makes WWK's child-focused recruitment program work, in our latest blog post.

Adolescent Health Highlight

Teens and young adults account for half of the nearly 20 million new STDs diagnosed in the U.S. each year. They also face unique barriers to obtaining STD-related health services. This brief presents key research findings about trends in STD rates among adolescents, provides information on STD prevention and testing, and more.
