Greetings! | You know the feeling: you're about to be confronted ... even "dressed down" in what is often called a "Come to Jesus Meeting."
Most of the time, that expectation fills us with dread.
But should it? In today's article, you'll read about How to Know If It's a True "Come to Jesus Meeting." It's all about combining correction with redemption.
We're writing from Guatemala, where we're witnessing an overwhelming transfer of leadership skills from elders to young leaders. God is doing mighty things here. Thank you for partnering with us to build spiritually healthy leaders in remote areas!
Keep growing!

BACK 40 IN GUATEMALA
|
Thanks to your partnership, we have been in the village of La Esperanza near Quetzaltenango, the second largest city in Guatemala, on March 22 - April 2 to coach and train elders and young leaders using Spiritually Healthy Leaders materials. This past week we have held seven workshops as well as having opportunity to preach and teach at services in the local church three times. We are honored to be able to minister with God's people in this remote area and we'll update you more thoroughly upon our return. In the meantime, will you please continue to pray for God's anointing on the Back 40 as a long-term outreach? Thank you for your sacrificial partnership!

Feature: HOW TO KNOW IF IT'S A TRUE "COME TO JESUS MEETING"
| John, an operations manager, had an unresolved issue with a vendor. "It's time for a 'Come to Jesus Meeting,'" he told his staff. John's team had seen their boss in action and knew what that term meant: the vendor would be on the receiving end of blunt confrontation.
Was it a true "Come to Jesus" meeting?
"Come to Jesus" or "Come to Sinai"? In one of the most well-known of such confrontations, Jewish leaders brought to Jesus a woman caught in the act of adultery. The accusers sought her condemnation and stoning as put forth in the Jewish law.
But the confrontation's outcome was different than the leaders expected. Jesus turned the focus from the woman to her accusers, saying, "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." (John 8:8). Then He urged the woman to go and not make the same mistake again.
To the accusers, the purpose of confrontation was to keep the rules. The woman broke the rules. She should be punished. Their approach might be best termed a "Come to Sinai" meeting, named after the place where the Jewish law was laid down.
But to Jesus, the purpose of confrontation was redemption. A true "Come to Jesus" meeting combines confrontation with correction and the opportunity for life change - an opportunity He presented to both the accusers and the accused.
Look at Your Motives A spiritually healthy leader understands these dual opportunities that arise with confrontation: the need to correct and the opportunity to redeem.
If you seek only correction, then the confrontation will lay down the law and instill fear. Its atmosphere will condemn rather than inspire. The accused will walk away destroyed, damaged, or at least wounded. A "Come to Sinai" meeting is always accompanied by conflict and turmoil.
If you seek to use a problem for a good outcome, then the confrontation will be altogether different. A "Come to Jesus" meeting won't skirt the issue, even if ultimately it means an employee is fired or a vendor's account is cancelled. The manner in which you approach the meeting will be one that seeks the best for the accused. A "Come to Jesus" meeting is filled with a sense of grace - a mixture of mercy and truth.
Open the Door to Growth When John and his team signed off from the conference call with his vendor, his staff turned to him in surprise. "You made it clear that we're not getting what we need," said his assistant. "Yet you gave them the opportunity to make the changes."
John smiled. A true "Come to Jesus" meeting doesn't close a door, but offers the opportunity to grow.
Allow the opportunity for your meeting to center on Christ. And take that opportunity when it comes your way, too.
 Growth Point
Healthy confrontation offers both correction and redemption. Scripture
"The law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ." (John 1:17, NIV)
Prayer Points - Recall a recent confrontation. Was it a "Come to Sinai" meeting or a "Come to Jesus" meeting?
- How can considering your motivation allow you to proceed productively with a confrontation?
- What are the benefits of presenting a problem with the opportunity for redemption?
