Greetings!
God uses three groups of people in fulfilling The Great Commission:

  • Goers: people who share the gospel
  • Converts: people who find new life in Christ and continue to grow
In this new 3-part series,The Cultivator takes a look at the significance of each of these responsibilities in fulfilling The Great Commission.Today you'll read about Senders. These key people play a critical role as A Hearing Cheering Squad.

Dalton & Vicki up close It's exciting to discover how each of these three tasks is crucial in introducing people to Jesus. You may fill any one of these roles at different times in your life! It's one more way to cultivate your spiritual health ... and keep growing.

The Great Commission Series, Part 1
Martha studied the letter from the young man in her congregation. He explained his call to participate in a short-term medical mission trip and had written to ask for her support - both financially and spiritually. As Martha prayed, a financial amount came to mind. It was more than she felt comfortable giving, but she sensed the unmistakable leading of God. Then Martha pulled out her prayer list. She added the young man's name to it.

woman-listening Martha was a Sender. A Sender is a person who provides support and encouragement for others who go and share the gospel.

Senders, along with Goers and Converts, play one of three important roles in the Great Commission Equation.  There are at least three ways Senders fulfill their role.
  1. Practical support: Senders provide resources so that Goers can fulfill God's call to share the gospel.
  2. Encouragement: Senders are cheerleaders. Their prayers, care packages, visits, and encouragement motivate and inspire Goers who face challenges and resistance in the field.
  3. Intercession: Senders provide a powerful ministry of prayer for those being served. As Senders pray for those who go, people hear the gospel, become Converts, and grow in their relationship with God.
Senders work behind the scenes, but that only underscores their need to be spiritually healthy. Their responsibility can best be described as "active listening." God calls Senders from complacency and passive observation, speaking to them through His Word and prayer. Senders are at their best when they are alert to God's voice - when they sense a burden for another person's call and act on it.

Check your hearing. By listening carefully to God and then obeying as He leads, you might play a key role in cheering on a Goer and supporting a Convert who finds new life in Christ.

Scripture

Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts. (Hebrews 3:15)

Growth Point

  • Why are all three roles - Senders, Goers, and Converts - essential in the Great Commission equation?
  • What factors might stand in the way of you hearing God's voice?
  • Think of a Goer you know and ways you can partner with him or her in sharing the gospel. If you don't know a Goer, ask God to place one in your path.
What People Are Saying ...
charging-cell-phone I just read again your thoughts about recharging, cell phones, and our daily walk with God. What a great analogy to think about! Thank you for the reminder of how vitally important it is to "recharge" our connection with the Lord on a daily basis. Hope you both are well. We appreciate the impact your ministry is having on all our lives.
