I live in a neighborhood with a lot of walkers. We have folks who walk alone, as couples, and as small groups. Some walk with their four-legged companions, while others walk unencumbered.
I've gotten to know many of these folks by sight. With others, a brief chat might begin and end with an exchange of pleasantries. For a few, I have longer conversations.

Making a better community begins with beautification, but it's just a start. There are a number of ways to make your town a better place to live. Whether it's encouraging kids to be more active or working to improve the enviromnment, everything counts. 
Thanks to support from the Dr. Pepper Snapple group, KaBOOM!, a national non-profit dedicated to saving play for America's children, is offering a variety of $750 grants to individuals and communities wishing to create or improve a playspace within their neighborhood. The mission of KaBOOM! is to create great playspaces through the participation and leadership of communities with the goal of providing a place to play within walking distance of every child in America.
