Fund A Playground: Grant Available


Thanks to support from the Dr. Pepper Snapple group, KaBOOM!, a national non-profit dedicated to saving play for America's children, is offering a variety of $750 grants to individuals and communities wishing to create or improve a playspace within their neighborhood. The mission of KaBOOM! is to create great playspaces through the participation and leadership of communities with the goal of providing a place to play within walking distance of every child in America.

My Garden Matters

I live in a neighborhood with a lot of walkers. We have folks who walk alone, as couples, and as small groups. Some walk with their four-legged companions, while others walk unencumbered.

I've gotten to know many of these folks by sight. With others, a brief chat might begin and end with an exchange of pleasantries. For a few, I have longer conversations.

Record your Community's Involvement with America in Bloom!

Any past or present AIB participant is eligible for the $500 cash award for the Best YouTube video. The length should be between 2 to 3 minutes, and the video must be placed on YouTube (www.youtube.com). The deadline for entries is this Friday, August 27.

The top three finalists will be featured and the winner announced at the 2012 AIB Symposium & Awards in Fayetteville, Arkansas, September 20-22. You do not have to be present at the symposium to win.

Plant are More than Just Pretty - Discover the Benefits!


Copies of the 12-page, full color educational brochure titled, "Discover the Surprising Side of Plants," are still available for sale on the America in Bloom (AIB) web site. Based on research and publications by AIB board member Charles Hall, PhD, of Texas A&M and others, the brochure summarizes the benefits of plants "beyond pretty" for people, communities, neighborhoods, and even offices.
