Greetings and Happy New Year!
The LCMLetter is published twice a month and its goal is to keep Lake County Municipal League members informed on municipal issues. As issues relevant to municipal officials arise, the LCMLetter will provide you with a synopsis of the issues and provide you with a link for further details.
EAB Grant Workshop Scheduled for January 23

 

The Metropolitan Mayors Caucus is offering competitive, reimbursable grants to help local government agencies sustain their urban forests by reducing impacts from the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB.) Recipients must pay for 50% of project costs through direct or in-kind contributions. Communities within the Illinois EAB quarantine zone are eligible to apply.

There are 3 categories of grants available:

  1. Reforestation Grants - For planting to replace ash trees;
  2. Technical Assistance Grants - For inventory and assessment of public trees and the development of plans to manage EAB; and
  3. Wood Utilization Grants - For reclamation and utilization of wood products from felled ash trees.

Applications are due February 1, 2013.

National Foreclosure Settlement Awards
Housing Counseling and Community Revitalization

Attorney General Lisa Madigan  announced she has designated up to $70 million of funding from the national foreclosure settlement for housing counseling services and relief efforts for Illinois communities fraught with vacant and abandoned properties that have been hardest hit by foreclosure.

RFQ/RFP to fund housing counseling services for homeowners and renters and to fund redevelopment initiatives for neighborhoods that have been destabilized by vacant and abandoned properties are being accepted. Proposals are due by February 15, 2013. Click here for application.

LCML/BACOG Legislative Breakfast, February 2

Join Lake County Municipal League and Barrington Area Council of Governments for the 2013 Legislative Breakfast on Saturday, February 2, hosted by AT&T. Registration begins at 8:45; breakfast at 9:00 am with program to follow. Cost is $10 per person.

This year we have many new legislators representing Lake County. The breakfast offers the perfect opportunity to meet the new members of the General Assembly.

Tollway Cameras program traffic views

The Illinois Tollway has expanded public access to traffic images by adding the feeds from 15 traffic camera locations to its website, www.illinoistollway.com. Customers can now access camera feeds that offer the "bird's eye" view on the I-90, I-94/I-294, I-355, and I-88 corridors.

 

The traffic cameras are just one option our customers have to get the latest travel information on our 286-mile roadway system. Other options include:
DCEO looking for energy efficiency input

In order to target future programs in energy efficiency, DCEO is looking for data from municipalities. Currently they are collecting aggregate information on Illinois public sector buildings and their energy use. Click here for the survey. Please complete the survey by February 28.
Quentin Rd. Open House

The Lake County Division of Transportation has scheduled a public meeting is to seek public input concerning improvements to Quentin Road, from US 12 to IL 22 in Kildeer and Lake Zurich in southern Lake County.

The purpose of the meeting is to present the preferred improvement plan, the project schedule, and seek public input and comments regarding the project.
