Events and News for Young Adults

Dear Young Adult Community,

We hope this email finds you all settling in well to 2015.  We are excited to be here with you all to journey with you and see what God has in store for us in this year ahead.  Of course we are all hoping another Super Bowl Championship might be on that list! In addition to the excitement that the Hawks and the 12s are feeling going into this Super Bowl weekend Edwin and I are feeling great excitement with some of the upcoming events, programs, and happenings around the archdiocese for young adults.  We want to take a moment to highlight two unique programs.

Our office has partnered with young adult groups from across the archdiocese to put together a Young Adult Lenten Small Group Program. This is a program that is designed by young adults for young adults groups to use at the parish throughout Lent and it culminates at the Holy Thursday Pilgrimage on April 2.  The program is titled "The Burdens We Carry."  Learn more about the program and how you can participate below.

Second, we want to highlight the upcoming World Youth Day Pilgrimage to Krakow, Poland. We still have space left for the 2016 WYD Pilgrimage to Poland.  We will be traveling for 11 days to places including Auschwitz, Zakopane, the Sanctuary of the Divine Mercy and we will be right in the heart of all the World Youth Day activities happening in Krakow.  We would love to have you join us for this pilgrimage.  Archbishop Sartain will be with us as well as two seminarians from the archdiocese.  To learn more about the pilgrimage please reach out to us or check out the webinar by following this link.

Thanks for checking out the newsletter and we hope to see you all at an upcoming event this year.  Enjoy the game on Sunday and of course, Go Hawks!!

Peace,

The Taizé Community consists of about 100 brothers from nearly 25 countries. Together, as Protestants and Catholics, they welcome hundreds of thousands of young adults from around the world to their monastery in southern France where they pray together, share daily life, and seek ways of peace and solidarity grounded in the Gospel. The brothers also facilitate the "Pilgrimage of Trust on Earth," visiting young adults around the world to support the work of trust and reconciliation. To learn more about Taizé click here.

The Archdiocese of Seattle Young Adult Ministry & St. James Cathedral Young Adults are co-sponsoring this evening.

Young Adult Lenten Small Group Program:

"The Burdens We Carry"

This Lent join young adults across the archdiocese for a program of reflection, small group discussion, scripture, and sacrifice.  Young Adults from St. James Cathedral (Seattle), Mass Consumption (Tacoma), Sacred Heart (Bellevue), UW Newman Center (Seattle), Holy Family (Kirkland) have joined forces to put together a Lenten program that has weekly meetings for young adults to come together in prayer and reflection.  Each week will focus on the gospel reading for the upcoming Sunday with discussion questions to follow.  The themes to be considered will build on each other under the theme "The Burdens We Carry".

The program is available to all young adults and young adult ministry groups in the archdiocese.  We will have materials available on-line so that you can print the materials and host the small groups at your parish or some place convenient. Those materials will be posted in early February.  If you are interested in learning more or want to sign your young adult group up for this exciting and unique opportunity please contact Caitlin.

We will wrap up the program at the Holy Thursday Pilgrimage where our theme is "Burdens Washed Away."

The line-up includes:
Wed, Feb 25-- Bishop Elizondo, Auxiliary Bishop of Seattle
Bishop Elizondo will begin the series with an exploration into the life of Jesus.  He will lead us in a discussion considering and getting to know the historical Jesus, the Jesus who walked this Earth, the Jesus who felt love and hurt and joy and sorrow.

Victoria has served in ministry in the archdiocese for over 35 years. She began as a campus and young adult minister working with the two colleges and the 20 parishes in Pierce County. Since then she served as Pastoral Associate at St. George Parish for 7 years, as Pastoral Life Director at St. Patrick for 10 years, and as the Pastoral Coordinator St. Catherine of Siena.  Today she is officially retired.  Victoria has a PhD in systematic theology from the University of Chicago Divinity School and she is an adjunct faculty at the School of Theology and Ministry at Seattle University. Victoria's talk is on the Passion and Death of Christ.  She has titled her talk Walking with Jesus to the Cross: His Suffering and Death & Our Own.

Wed, March 11 -- Fr. James Eblen
Fr. James Eblen is a senior priest of the Archdiocese of Seattle.  As Professor Emeritus at Seattle University's School of Theology and Ministry, Fr. James has taught courses in Scripture, homiletics and ecumenical theology for more than twenty-five years.  As weekend assistant, he has celebrated liturgical ministry in a number of Seattle-area parishes.  Senior priest status means more time for prayer and writing along with parish adult education courses. Fr. James's talk will focus on the Resurrection of Christ and its implications in our own lives today.

***************************************************************************
Each week before the talks begin at Kells Irish Pub, Christ Our Hope invites you to join for Mass at 6:30PM.

We will be upstairs at Kells for these talks and will have food and drink specials all night!
