TJX Outstanding Volunteer Award Recipient:
Marie Zhang
|
The TJX Outstanding Volunteer Award recognizes volunteers who make significant contributions to BCNC.
Marie's journey with BCNC started off four years ago when she was a tutor for our youth tutoring program back when she was just a freshman at Boston University. Her commitment to the program, evident successes with her tutees, and genuine interest in teaching convinced us that there was great potential in Marie as a leader, so she eventually became our Education Intern, taking on greater responsibility with students and program planning. As her aspiration to become a teacher became stronger and clearer, Marie moved on to become a teaching assistant, working with older students in and out of school.
Marie then became a student teacher at the Josiah Quincy Upper School. Now, she helps Youth Center with our new tutoring at Quincy Upper School and has recently accepted a teaching position at Boston Adult Technical Academy. Marie carries herself with firmness and professionalism in her teaching, all the while being true to her calm and gentle persona. We believe that Marie is a wonderful teacher and will excel wherever she goes. Best wishes to Marie!

Volunteer Spotlight: Christina Chung
"Christina is a college mentor in our College Access Program at BCNC's Youth Center. She has been a positive role model and mentor to one of Youth Center's youth for about two years now and their relationship has truly blossomed into something extraordinary. Christina not only contributes her time to volunteering with us at BCNC, but she also dedicates time to outside volunteer groups, including the Taiwanese American Cultural Society, South Boston T.E.A.M, and Read to a Child Boston. Her passion and enthusiasm for mentoring even led her to fundraise for a matching donation from her current employer company to further support BCNC and our programming. Christina is genuine, loving, altruistic, and compassionate - all that defines a deserving and quality volunteer." - Sandra Lee, BCNC Youth Center Education Associate Thank you Christina!
