Spotlight Story

Wen Qiu Liu
wen

Spotlight Stories are about people from the BCNC family and how BCNC has impacted their lives.

An immigrant parent fights for the right of her child.

Wen Qiu Liu has overcome many obstacles in her life from surviving the difficulties of living in New York City as a new immigrant, to the  insurmountable challenges of trying to find her hearing impaired son the adequate education and resources he needs - all while trying to grasp a new language and a new culture. After years of struggle, Wen Qiu Liu, with the help of BCNC, has found her son the education he rightly deserves.

 TJX Outstanding Volunteer Award Recipient:

Ivy Dever

volunteer

The TJX Outstanding Volunteer Award recognizes volunteers who make significant contributions to BCNC.

"Words cannot describe how much Ivy has contributed to the  Youth Center (YC) last school year. She was a dedicated tutor in our YC tutoring program and also helped with supervising floor time at YC. Ivy brought to YC the skills she learned in her Expressive Therapy classes and created a supportive environment where youth can create art and express themselves. Ivy always came to YC with a contagious smile on her face and a positive vibe. She had an inexplicable way of having youth open up to her and trust her in ways that not just anyone can do. A great example of this was when Ivy held a sign painting workshop at YC and youth whom you would least expect to participate created beautiful art that revealed their feelings and thoughts. Ivy is an amazing volunteer and support at YC!

Elaine Ng Named Boston Foundation's Change Maker

elaine

We are very proud to have Elaine Ng, BCNC Executive Director, named as one of Boston Foundation's Change Makers.

"They are the philanthropists, the visionaries and the social entrepreneurs. Some of them are all three. They look at problems and see nothing but opportunities. They never walk away from a challenge and they are never satisfied with the status quo. They are the healers, the educators, the community leaders. They are The Change Makers."
