Corn Growers Urge Transportation Bill Reconcile
The National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) is happy the House of Representatives passed the Surface Transportation Reauthorization and Reform Act of 2015, a bill that would extend federal highway funding for the next six years. But in this news release, NCGA urged the House and Senate now to reconcile their respective transportation bills and send it to the White House for signature, before federal transportation funding expires on November 20. Renewable Industries Call on Secy of State for Support
COP 21 is fast approaching and the U.S. will be in the spotlight for its efforts to reduce climate change impacts. In anticipation of the worldwide climate event, leaders of the U.S. biomass, geothermal and hydropower industries are urging Secretary of State John Kerry to support a "pan-renewable technologies approach". The National Hydropower Association, Biomass Power Association and Geothermal Energy Association (GEA) said in the letter that today these technologies provide 86 percent of the world's renewable power and this amount is anticipated to grow in the coming years. Poll Shows African Americans Back Climate Action
According to a new poll released today by the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and GREEN FOR ALL, two-thirds of African Americans believe global warming is a serious program and want more action to curb its effects. This group also supports the Clean Power Plan (CPP), finalized in August, as a tool to address the climate crisis while 83 percent of respondents back setting the first-ever limits on carbon pollution from coal-and gas-fired power plants under the CPP. In addition, a strong majority of African Americans believe that as the nation drives down dangerous carbon pollution it can drive up the use of clean energy including wind and solar energy. Green Plains & Delek to Build Ethanol Terminal
Green Plains Partners and Delek US Holdings have announced plans to build an ethanol unit train terminal in Maumelle, Arkansas. The 50:50 venture, being constructed on the Union Pacific rail line, will is estimated to cost $12 million and be completed by the end of 2106. Maumelle is located near Little Rock and Mayor Mike Watson applauded the companies for their investment in the community's economic development. MORE

USB Brings Sustainability Tool to IL and IN
The United Soybean Board (USB) and Conservation Technology Information Center (CTIC) are beginning a new project to help soy growers in Illinois and Indiana improve sustainability. Field to Market: The Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture's Fieldprint� Calculator is a software tool that allows users to see where their operation needs changes and how their farm can improve sustainability and greater efficiency. The funding provided by USB will focus on farms in the Indian Creek watershed of Illinois and the Big Pine watershed of Indiana. MORE

Details for Syngenta's Crop Challenge Revealed
A new contest hosted by Syngenta was revealed on Wednesday at the 2015 INFORMS Annual Meeting. The Syngenta Crop Challenge encourages participants to develop a model that will aid farmers in predicting what they should plant next season to maximize yield. Data will be provided for weather, soil properties, and seed variety tests to develop the unique models. MORE

USDA Invests In Improving Water Quality
$30 million will be invested in Mississippi watersheds this year according to Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack. 33 new projects and 40 existing projects to improve water quality in high priority watersheds are included in the project; these projects affect waters that flow into the Gulf of Mexico. WOTUS in the Senate
The controversial Clean Water rule known as Waters of the U.S. (WOTUS) was the subject of two bills in the Senate on Tuesday and hours of debate on both sides, despite one bill failing to invoke cloture. MORE

Poll: Rural Voters Support Pro-RFS Candidates
On a press conference call this afternoon, the National Farmers Union (NFU), released a poll that showed popularity and support within rural congressional districts for political candidates that support the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS). NFU President Roger Johnson said that the poll demonstrates the importance of the Obama Administration getting the RFS back on track as it sets the RFS volume obligations for 2014-2016, due out by the end of this month.
