The ZimmComm editorial team held down the fort while Chuck and Cindy attended the IFAJ Congress in New Zealand and then took a few days of vacation in Sydney, Australia. They returned to ZimmComm World Headquarters yesterday and are back in action. Well, Chuck is mostly back in action. He's heading out to the Crystal Pig Hunt Club today for a few days of fall deer hunting but will be armed and dangerous with his new iPhone 6S Plus!
Since Chuck and Cindy got to spend so much time in an airplane recently our new ZimmPoll asks the question, "How do you pass the time flying?" We're interested to know.

AgWired Ag Biologicals Can Play Starring Role in Productivity

Dr. Channaptna Prakash Accepts CAST Award
This year's winner of the Borlaug CAST Communication Award was Dr. Channapatna Prakash, who gave a keynote presentation during the award ceremony entitled, "Everything I Know about GMOs, I Learned on Social Media". Currently the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Tuskegee University, Prakash was instrumental in establishing the prestigious plant biotechnology research and training program at the school, and he has a long list of influential publications and awards. He has presented his messages about agriculture in more than 70 countries. MORE

Young Ag Journalists Develop Leadership in New Zealand
Ten young ag leaders representing ten countries are gathered in New Zealand to continue to develop their leadership skills and further their professional development in ag journalism. The International Federation of Agricultural Journalists (IFAJ) boot camp is sponsored by Alltech and provides the journalists with opportunities for presentations, interactive group sessions, and even a visit to a local dairy. RFA Wants Oregon to Treat All Fuels Fairly
The Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) wants the state of Oregon to treat all fuels fairly. This news release from the group says RFA submitted comments to the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) in response to the agency's September proposed rule for the state's Clean Fuels Program (CFP). RFA wants the department to use standards that "support performance-based low carbon fuel programs that are grounded in the principles of fairness, sound science, and consistent analytical boundaries." However, RFA stated that it could not support DEQ's proposal because by introducing "concepts that lack scientific integrity and balance into the regulatory framework," the agency was only creating "stakeholder division and controversy." P&G to Meet Power Demands with 100% Wind
Proctor & Gamble (P&G) made an announcement this week when they committed to meet 100 percent of its electricity demands with wind power. The company has developed a partnership with EDF Renewable Energy (EDF RE) that includes the development of a 370,000 MWh wind farm in Cooke County, Texas expected to be online by December 2016. The Tyler Bluff Wind Project will produce enough energy to meet all power demands for their North American Fabric and Home care plants where globally brands including Tide, Gain, Downy, Dawn, Cascade, Febreze and Mr. Clean are manufactured. Massachusetts Most Energy Efficient US State
Massachuesetts has edged out California as the most energy efficient state in the U.S. according to the ninth annual State Energy Efficiency Scorecard. Several states continue to improve their scores including California, Maryland, Illinois, Texas and Washington D.C. The report is published by the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE) with support from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). MORE

Syngenta Acquires Ag Connections
Syngenta has announced they are making their 14-year partner a wholly-owned subsidiary. Ag Connections will help the company to accelerate the growth of digital solutions and provide growers with whole-farm management. The collaboration between the two companies will focus on providing farmers with decision-making tools, specifically with the farm management software AgriEdge Excelsior, which integrates products, services, risk management and technology.
