NRDC Report: U.S. Energy Economy Healthy
America's energy economy has never been better according to a new report, "A Tectonic Shift in America's Energy Landscape," from the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). One key finding is that innovative energy saving techniques have enabled the country to more than double its economic productivity from oil, natural gas and electricity over the past 40 years. This means, finds the report, that energy efficiency has contributed more to meeting the country's needs than all other resources combined. MORE

NEC to Participate in Int'l Buyer Program
The National Ethanol Conference (NEC) has been selected to participate in the U.S. Department of Commerce's International Buyer Program (IBF). This marks the first time the NEC has been selected, an annual ethanol conference hosted by the Renewable Fuels Association (RFA). The NEC will take place Feb. 15-17, 2016 in New Orleans. MORE

IEA Releases Mid-Term Renewable Report
According to the International Energy Agency (EIA), renewable energy will represent the largest single source of electricity growth over the next five years. Pointing to the need to economically mitigate climate change and enhance energy security, the report calls on governments to reduce policy uncertainties that are creating barriers to development.MORE

Bayer CropScience has announced plans for an expanded presence into greenhouse & nursery markets during late 2016. The turf & ornamentals division will move to fully serve the production ornamentals market in November 2016. By marketing products and active ingredients previously marketed by OHP, Inc, Bayer will be able facilitate entry into the market & will be better able to serve professional growers in nurseries, greenhouses, and garden centers across the US. World Food Prize 2015/Borlaug 101
The 2015 World Food Prize kicked off in Des Moines, Iowa this week. Also taking place is Borlaug 101: Fundamentals of Global Food Security from October 14-15, 2015. To celebrate the 101st anniversary of founder Dr. Norman E. Borlaug (Green Revolution), and keeping in focus the unprecedented challenge the world faces to sustainably and nutritiously feed 9.7 billion by 2050, the 2015 conference gathered a "faculty" of international leaders, experts and scientists in three days of discussion on the Fundamentals of Global Food Security. Dairy Care 365 Provides Key Training & Proven Success
Dairy Care 365 is a tool from Merck Animal Health to train employees on dairies about animal stockmenship. The series of educational videos are available in multiple languages and provide an assessment at the end. Dr. Mike Bolton serves as the Dairy Technical Services Manager for Merck Animal Health and has been behind the training tool since it's beginning. I spoke with him at the 2015 World Dairy Expo. Research Finds Algae Feed for Cattle Health Benefits
Research from Kansas State University has found that grass-fed cattle given a diet that includes algae-based feed or flaxseed rations produces ground beef that contains at least 200 mg per 5 ounce serving of omega-3s up from only 20-30 mg from just eating grass. The hope is that health-conscious consumers may be enticed to eat more beef if it was fortified with these heart healthy omega-3 fatty acids. The Kansas State research was based on discovering if steaks and hamburgers from cattle fattened on algae pass on the healthy fats and the answer is yes. MORE
