Happy National Agriculture Week and Spring!  If you missed the Ag Day activities in Washington, DC you can see and hear what was going on with Chuck's posts on AgWired, sponsored by GROWMARK.  He's on his way home and has more stories to publish.

While Chuck was in Washington, DC, Jamie Johansen was attending Missouri ALOT activities all week.  She will be staying in the Capitol city to cover next week's American Coalition for Ethanol annual member Fly-in.

Chuck and Cindy had some big news this week as their daughter Caitlin delivered a happy, healthy baby boy (second one - Case Aspen Underwood).  Grandma immediately flew to Missouri to spend some time with the boys and Chuck will be joining her this weekend.  We love grand babies!

Charles Eastin Award Presented on Ag Day
 
The recipient of the 2015 Charles Eastin Award is Dennis Pennington, Michigan State University Extension. The Eastin Award presented by the Agriculture Council of America and honors an individual who stands out as an advocate for accurate communications between rural and urban audiences. Dennis was presented his award by Colin Woodall, NCBA and Chair of the Agriculture Council of America and Orion Samuelson, Ag Day dinner emcee. MORE

Cattlemen Back House Efforts to Repeal Death Tax


The National Cattlemen's Beef Association (NCBA) is backing efforts to repeal the death tax. NCBA members went in front of the House Committee on Ways and Means, Subcommittee hearing on the Burden of the Estate Tax on Family Businesses and Farms. National Cattlemen's Beef Association member and seventh-generation cattleman from Fort Davis, Texas, Bobby McKnight testified before the subcommittee on how the death tax affects cattle producers. Senators Want Dietary Comment Extension

 

A bipartisan group of senators have asked for a 30-day extension of the public comment period for the 2015 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee's (DGAC) Scientific Report. Senate Ag Committee chairman Pat Roberts, R-Kansas, and Health, Education, Labor and Pensions chair Lamar Alexander, R-Tennessee, joined their respective committees' ranking members, Debbie Stabenow, D-Michigan, and Patty Murray, D-Washington, in sending a letter requesting the extension to U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack and to U.S. Secretary of Health & Human Services (HHS) Sylvia Burwell. Coalition Provides Info to Increase Egg-Laying Sustainability

  

New research is giving egg producers more information on sustainability. The Coalition for Sustainable Egg Supply (CSES) has publicly released the final results of its hen housing research, which evaluates three laying hen housing systems based on a variety of sustainability measures. MORE
