No other state can boast having the largest indoor farm show in the country and Kentucky is pretty proud that their little National Farm Machinery Show is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Wind Power Will Help Meet Clean Power Plan 
 
According to a new report released today by the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), adding more wind power to the U.S. electric grid can help the country meet the goals set out in the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Clean Power Plan. Carbon emissions will be reduced and the lights will stay on, said AWEA, as wind power is already providing clean and reliable power for millions of Americans. MORE 

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has allocated $13 million in funding as part of the Solar Powering America by Recognizing Communities (SPARC) program. The funds are designed to aid communities in reducing market and policy barriers to solar deployment and also recognize communities for taking solar initiatives. The DOE believes the program will make it faster, cheaper and easier for Americans to install affordable solar energy systems and spur solar development. MORE 
U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Tom Vilsack has announced new funding under the Rural Energy for America (REAP) program under the 2014 Farm Bill. The more than $280 million in funds are open to rural agricultural producers and small business owners to install renewable energy systems or make energy efficiency improvements. MORE

At the National Farm Machinery Show this week, John Deere announced the introduction of the new R4023 Self-Propelled Sprayer - smaller, more nimble, and ideal for producers with smaller, irregular-shaped fields. MORE

Millennials Expect Higher Animal Welfare Standards  


More than ever before, millennials have higher expectations of animal welfare practices being carried out by today's producers. This news release from the U.S. Farmers & Ranchers Alliance says the group hosted a recent Food Dialogues panel, with this one focusing on on dairy operations, and the group attending in-person and online was told by Bruce Feinberg, global animal health and welfare officer with McDonald's, that social media has allowed consumers to reach out and self-educate around agricultural issues, and companies must understand the relevance to consumers.
