United Fresh Awards Highlight Innovation, Creativity

Domestic Fuel Amyris & Total Prepare to Market Biojet Fuel
With the recently revised ASTM standard for jet fuel, Amyris and Total are now in the process of preparing to marketing their drop-in jet fuel that contains up to 10 percent blends of farnesane. The fuel, which has undergone extensive in-flight testing, meets all performance requirements set for Jet A/A-1 fuel used by the global commercial aviation industry. MORE |
GRFA: UN Sustainable Goals Must Include Biofuels
This week the 12th session of the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals began at the United Nations in New York City. In response to the meeting, the Global Renewable Fuels Alliance (GRFA) is encouraging participants to include specific targets for biofuels developments as part of UN's sustainability goals. In addition, GRFA stressed to delegates that the use of sustainable biofuels as a replacement for crude-based transportation fuels significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions while diving investments in agriculture. E85 Found for $1.39 Less Than Gas in Iowa
For several months, the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) has been tracking wholesale E85 prices in Iowa and this week found the largest price differential since they began the E85 Price Listing Service: $1.39 per gallon less than gasoline wholesale. MORE |

Educator Training Adds New Resources for Teachers
Summer is here and that means the 2014 Educators Training Event is right around the corner. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack is in Europe this week meet with European agricultural and trade officials and other industry stakeholders. Vilsack is visiting with officials in Brussels, Luxembourg, Paris, and Dublin to discuss the expansion of agricultural trade, the importance of agriculture's role in the U.S.-European Union (EU) Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (T-TIP), and the benefits the trade agreement will have to both the American and European economies. Topigs & Norsvin Announce Merger During WPX14
A major announcement was made during this year's 2014 World Pork Expo: TOPIGS International and Norsvin International have merged into one company: Topigs Norsvin. The merger will create a global swine breeding company with annual revenues in excess of US $179 million. The newly merged company's headquarters will be located in Vught, the Netherlands. TOPIGS Nederland, Varkens K.I. Nederland and Norsvin SA were not part of the merger. Both companies are farmer owned and focus on genetic progress from applied research and development. Minority shareholders include farmer-owned meat processors and a feed supplier. MORE
