Summer Wine Festival is August 18

 Join us for an afternoon of wine tasting, delicious appetizers and fun at the Soda Center on Sunday, August 18, from 2-5 p.m. $45 per person until August 9; $60 thereafter; proceeds benefit student scholarships. Space is limited.
Your ticket includes an SMC logo wine glass, appetizers and all tastings. $15 per person for designated drivers, which includes appetizers and non-alcoholic beverages. See which wineries, breweries and vendors will be joining us. (Attendees must be at least 21 years of age.)

 More than 700 alumni, family and friends returned to Saint Mary's for Alumni Reunion in July. In addition to the ever-popular family picnic, class dinners on the Chapel Lawn and Saturday night dance, the weekend featured a champagne toast to Gael love and a surprise marriage proposal. View photos.
Construction for the Joseph L. Alioto Recreation Center will begin in mid-August. The Center is expected to open in 18 months.
Jim Guyette '67, the CEO of Rolls-Royce North America, and his wife have provided a generous gift to establish a new professorship in responsible leadership at the School of Economics and Business Administration.
More than 200 students from high schools across the western United States brought a burst of energy to the campus during the annual Lasallian Student Leaders program.
A new exhibit at the SMC Museum of Art, "Afterglow: Rethinking California Light and Space Art," has opened and will run through September 29. And make sure to take a peek at the new photography exhibit, "Surfaces: Transformative Photography from Nevada & the Great Basin."

Eric Valenzuela has been named as the 12th head coach of the Gaels baseball program. His career started as an assistant at SMC from 2002-03 before moving on to become one of the nation's premier assistant coaches at University of San Diego and then at San Diego State under Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn. The University of the Pacific has formally joined the WCC; the Tigers will field a team in 10 of the conference's 14 sponsored sports.
Recent graduate Ben Geyer '13 won the NCGA Amateur Stroke Play Championship for the second time in two years, becoming the first defending champion in the modern era. He won the event by nine strokes with a 54-hole total of 205, 11 under par, at Bayonet Golf Course.
The West Coast Conference recognized 101 Saint Mary's student-athletes as part of the 12th annual WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll, more than one-third of SMC's total student-athlete population.
