$85,000 Endowment To Honor Professor Cory A group of SMC School of Science alumni have raised $85,000 to establish an endowment for scholarships for biology students in honor of Professor Emeritus Lawrence Cory '39, who taught at Saint Mary's for 60 years. The news was announced at a recent dinner to honor Professor Cory. Students Fight for Cal GrantsFour SMC students traveled to Sacramento last month to support a bill authored by Assembly member Susan Bonilla that would set up a more reliable funding formula for Cal Grants. In a ceremony last month, Chevron donated $10,000 to the School of Economics and Business Administration in honor of the 100th birthday of alumnus Clay McElroy '34. The School of Economics and Business Administration has announced the launch of an Enactus team at SMC. Enactus is an international nonprofit that brings together student, academic and business leaders to use entrepreneurial action to improve the lives of people in need.
The Saint Mary's Center for Environmental Literacy celebrated the creativity of children around the world at the 18th Annual Youth Creativity Awards. View the winning pieces created by these passionate youth and learn more about the Center!
Raises Funds for OxfamDe La Salle week kicked off with the 6th Annual Run/Walk 4 Hunger, and the results were fitting for the College's sesquicentennial: More than 150 people participated; over 150 pounds of food was donated and over $500 was raised for Oxfam America. View a slide show of the event Saint Mary's alumnus and former staff member Jim Weyland '60 passed away April 15. Weyland was an integral part of the Career Development Center for 18 years. He specialized in proudly serving the career needs of alumni, graduate students and extended education students. He was also a giving person and a proud member of the 1863 Society.

Men's Golf Wins Second- Straight WCC Championship
The SMC golf team made history by winning consecutive West Coast Conference championships for the first time in school history. With the victory, SMC returns to the NCAA Championships; regional selections will be announced on May 6. Junior Maryann Concannon has been invited to the prestigious US Rowing camp, which will determine the women's eight and quad teams that will compete in the 2013 World Rowing Championships. The nationally ranked No. 40 Gaels earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive year. They take on Auburn at Cal on May 10. Ranked No. 9 in the nation, Saint Mary's newest D1 sport sends pair Dalas Dodd and and Jordan Shaw to the AVCA National Championships in Alabama. The Gaels finished their first season with an 8-2 record. |
