On Easter Saturday, we had the first of our two Awards Nights for the Season. The evening recognised achievements at the Club Championships ( Event winners ), members who gained new Life Saving Qualifications ( from SRC right up to Gold Medallions ) and we had the opportunity to hear from two different leadership camp attendees - James Coutie who attended the SLSA National Leadership College and ( pictured ) William Adcock, Angus Scott and Ruby Keon-Cohen ) who were 3 of the 4 who attended the LSV Under 15 Leadership Camp. It was great to hear from James, William, Angus and Ruby about these important leadership / development opportunities which are an important avenue to assist to help develop and skill our future leaders.
Please remember to put Saturday 16th July in your diary / on your calendar for the 'Winter' awards night.
As I mentioned in the February Post, 2017 will be a special year as the Club is set to celebrate 3 milestones ... our 70th anniversary of formation, 50 years of the Nipper program and 30 years of the Rip View Swim Classic.
To assist to plan the lead up to and the various celebrations, the Executive Committee are forming a 2017 Celebrations sub committee and I am seeking members who would like to be a part of this sub committee. It will not take a huge amount of time and this sub committee will help drive what happens for these milestones. Can you please email your expression of interest to me ( president@pointlonsdaleslsc.asn.au ) by Sunday 1st May ?
A reminder that Saturday 21st October 2017 has been set aside for some form of official function, so don't forget to pop this in your diary / on your calendar now.
Also in the February post, I wrote, "With our 70th anniversary approaching it is time to look at our strategic future too as our current 10 year plan expires in 2017.
The current document was a significant achievement and has provided invaluable assistance to the Executive in strategic planning and direction.
I am seeking written nominations from current members who may like to form a working group who will draft our 'next 10 year plan' and the group will consist of myself, and up to one member of the 'current' Executive, 2 members of the 'current' General Committee, a Life Member and 2 other members, Please email me ( president@pointlonsdaaleslsc.asn.au) with your nomination, including relevant experience and why you would like to be on the working party before Sunday 20th March."
The 20th March has come and gone and unfortunately not one single email !
As previously advised, the condition of the original (front) section of the HC Windmill Back Beach Base is at a point where the only solution is it's replacement, due to being riddled with concrete cancer. Our Vice President Property (Andrew MacLeod) is seeking representatives from a number of Club areas to form a working group to determine what it would be replaced with. We undertook the same task when addressing the limited storage space at the Santa Casa Beach Base and have designs / plans drawn up for any future expansion at that site. Please email your expressions of interest to Andrew ( vpproperty@pointlonsdaleslsc.asn.au ) before Sunday 1 May.
Finally, I'm pleased to welcome Justine Cain to fill the vacant Vice President (Lifesaving) role, coordinating our training and assessment area and Drew Robinson to fill the vacant Vice President (Aquatic Sports) role, coordinating our aquatic sports area. All positions on the Club's Executive Committee are now filled which is great for your Club.
