Marjorie Tahbone, B.A. Rural Development Class of 2012
Article: by Laura Kraegel The Arctic Winter Games start Sunday in Greenland. Nine athletes from Nome are representing Team Alaska at the international tournament. They'll compete in four events: Dene Games, Arctic Sports, Biathlon Ski, and Alpine Skiing.
Most of Nome's athletes have competed in indigenous games since they were little kids. But at today's practice, Coach Marjorie Tahbone has them trying something new.

2016 Kay L. Thomas Pathfinder Award goes to Sarah Andrew
Congratulation to Sarah Andrew! She is the Manager of Adult Learning Programs at the Bristol Bay Campus for CRCD, and the 2016 recipient of the Kay Thomas Pathfinder Award. This award is given to an individual who, like Kay Thomas (a previous UAF staff member for whom the award is named) works tirelessly on behalf of rural and Native Alaskan students at UAF. Ms. Andrew also serves her community on the Dillingham City School District's School Board, whose student population is comprised of approximately 80% Native Alaskan residents.
Sarah also functions as an advocate for parents & students who are navigating the Special Education/IEP processes in the school district, championing the students as a family advocate. Additionally, she is an Instructor in Developmental Education with the University of Alaska and works with numerous programs, both as instructor and/or advocate for students. Ms. Andrew is also the Chair of the UAF Bristol Bay Campus Family Literacy Project and a board member on the Alaska Disability Law Center. DANSRD is proud to present the 2016 Pathfinder Award to such a deserving staff and faculty member! As the marketing logo for UAF indicates, Sarah Andrew is the true embodiment of what "Naturally Inspiring" means to our university community. Congratulations again Sarah, for a job well done!
