Salinas Asian Festival 2017 - The 2017 Salinas Asian Festival held in Salinas' Chinatown was a success. Community members were able to experience traditional lion dancers performing in front of the Buddhist Temple.

Fire Station Taking Shape - Fire Station 5 in North/East Salinas construction is coming to a close on the remaining items left to complete this project funded by Measure G. Pictured here is the beginnings of the front and side landscaping work, which has been utilizing sustainable landscapes and drought resistant plants to limit the need for watering saving City funds for many years to come.

Great Launch for the Salinas History Project - We celebrated the official launch of the Salinas History project on Sunday afternoon, April 30, with an enthusiastic group of approximately 70 Salinas residents and two guest lecturers from Stanford University. Director Carol McKibben presented a synopsis of the project's scope and its long term goals. It was especially inspiring to see the great turnout from Hartnell College!
May is National Bike Month - Join us in celebrating National Bike Month with some bike safety themed story times!

Community Development
Housing and Community Development Celebrates CDBG Week - The City Council designated the week of April 17-22, 2017, as the City's Celebration of National CDBG and Affordable Housing Week, to celebrate the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program, HOME Investment Partnership (HOME) Program, and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG), as well as other federal programs in support of community development and affordable housing.

Supervisor training Prepares Staff to Lead VISTA Program - From April 24 through April 26, three staff members from the Community Development and Library & Community Services departments received supervisor training in Los Angeles, as Salinas prepares to recruit and welcome five VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) Members. These members, who are provided by a grant through the federal Corporation for National and Community Service will focus on building capacity to fight poverty in East Side neighborhoods,
