Rabbit Cake by Annie Hartnett
People Magazines Book of the Week.
Elvis's mother once marked every milestone by baking a rabbit-shaped cake, but the year Elvis turns 10, without any fanfare, mom sleepwalks into the river and drowns. Having been told by her therapist that 18 months is the normal amount of time to grieve, Elvis, who makes sense of her world of Freedom, Ala., through research and observation, sets out to record her own grieving process. Complicating her recovery, however, is her older sister, Lizzie, who has also taken up sleepwalking, sleep eating, and even more dangerous behavior.
This book is for teenage readers, and you can find it in our catalog.
The Art of Relevance
Nina Simon received a warm welcome on Thursday, April 13, at the John Steinbeck Library from members of the community celebrating National Library Week with us.
Nina, who is nationally recognized for her innovative work in changing museums and reinventing audiences for cultural institutions, gave a very engaging presentation based on her latest book "The Art of Relevance."
With great energy and enthusiasm, she shared about how she was able to turn around the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History, both financially
and programmatically, and urged the audience to think more creatively about their own cultural institutions.
Thank you Asian Cultural Experience and Friends of the Salinas Public Library for collaborating with us to make this event possible.
