"Safe Routes to School"
Groundbreaking March 20

Salinas, CA -- The City of Salinas and its County and school district partners will break ground Monday, March 20 on a $1.2 million "Safe Routes to School" project, designed to improve traffic safety near Fremont Elementary and El Sausal Middle School.

Among the project's anticipated benefits:
  • High visibility crosswalks to improve street crossing for pedestrians
  • Installation of two signals to help with traffic flow and pedestrian crossings
  • Protected bicycle lanes
  • Reduced vehicle speeds
  • Safer travel for all near and between the two schools.
A sixth grade student from Fremont Elementary will be among the speakers at the groundbreaking.

Also attending will be officials from the City of Salinas, the Monterey County Health Department, the Transportation Agency for Monterey County, the Alisal Union Elementary School District, and the Salinas Union High School district.
